I emailed Icom for an update on the IC-7000 model. Here was the reply.

Good Morning Bill-

Thank you very much for your inquiry. Icom Incorporated is developing many new products to meet the requests and expectation of our customers. The model you had inquired is one of such models. Unfortunately, however, it is still too early to make any announcements on the specification, release timing and price etc, as such are still undecided. We will be announcing such details on our homepage, through dealers or magazines as soon as possible. Ladies and gentlemen,

One of the common courtesies of "netiquette" is to type in lower-case except
where proper names (or exceptional emphasis of a word or phrase) call for
caps. All-caps should be avoided.

The "punctuation" thread is now closed. Time to move on...

people are stating a 2Q/2005 date.
not that i don't believe that this rig will show - i hope it does
which is why i am a member of this group in the fitst place.
but
2Q/2005 is april first is it not? but seriously - other than a
display unit at dayton - i doubt that it will show up in ham stores
before fall because of FCC acceptance - no one seems to be able to
stumble across any info in that area

Fake or Reality?

Ladies and Gentlemen, even if the long awaited and much discussed IC-
7000 turns out to be a hoax it's also been a lot of fun. At the very
least ICOM has a pretty good idea regarding the features we want in
the 706's replacement. Sort of a new twist on reverse engineering.

No rumor

Jim Weidner

I contacted a friend "high up" in Icom's ad department and he said
the rumors about a new rig 7000 are true but that there are still
some details to be worked out before public announcement -- something
with the specs. They are, however, working on an ad campaign for it.

Just my small contribution :

I am brazilian living in France and duly authorized Ham in this
country.

I am a reader of the magazine which published the article which
shares a strong reputation in France among the news in this area.

So far I have not seen any attitude neither from Mehahertz magazine
neither from Icom France to deny such an article.

The article appears in the same area dedicated to talk about near
future products every month.

Icom France has had enough time to deny this information but have
not done so. I personnaly contacted Icom France for two reasons :
1st for the new VHF HT radio that was coming out at the time and was
given the availabity date which proved to be correct, and 2nd for
the IC-7000. No prospects were available according to the ham branch
responsible but I was told the product would be seen by the end of
the semester/beginning of the second one.

I do think it is very weird not to hear concrete information in
markets such as US and others (France counts with almost 20000 Hams)
but who knows for sure ?

Let's hope it will really come at the time announced.

Eduardo - F/PU2VGA

Re: Fake - comment from another list

Hi Paul,

Well, a nagging curiosity as to whether the IC-700 might just be "for real"
after all may be sufficient reason for them to stick around a while. In any
event, they are most welcome.

Cheers for now, 73,

I was at a local hamfest today here in Georgia, and went up to HRO and told them I would like to purchase 2 Icom 7000's.
They told me... gosh you just missed out, they sold the last one with the thousand dollar coupon.

Seriously speaking the Manager of the HRO said, they have asked... and there
Icom Representative continue to tells them they don't know anything about this rig.

Re: Fake - comment from another list

Hi Guys,

I believe we can all afford the modest luxury of waiting until mid-year, to
see whether or not the promised announcement materialises.

A product such as the IC-7000 makes sense, as it is consistent with Icom's
intent to replace analogue HF and "HF-plus" transceivers with DSP-based
designs. To quote an excerpt from a CQ Ham Radio interview with Icom's lead
engineer (Nov. 2001 issue. Translation courtesy JA7UDE.)

The DSP filter is technically interesting, but another reason to use the DSP
for the IF filter is concern about the future availability of mechanical and
crystal filters for HAM use. It is doubtful that those kinds of filters will
be continuously available in the market forever in the future. The DSP
filter is implemented by software and permits easy quality control. IC-746
was the last transceiver that used the conventional analogue circuit for the
RX. ICOM would like to expand the use of DSP to the products in the lower
price ranges.

[Note: The IC-703, which still uses an analogue selectivity filter, was
released after the IC-746. Its architecture lends itself quite nicely to the
replacement of the 455 kHz analogue IF chain by a DSP-IF subsystem.]

Re: Fake - comment from another list

kyradio101

I belive it is a hoax. Hell... I was fooled by a website with a
annoucement of the "new" Yaesu FT 958.

I remember we had the same discussion before the Yaesu 857 came out.
What finally ended the hoax rumor was that someone found FCC
documentation on it on a FCC website.

So my suggestion is that keep looking through the FCC websites for
info on the "IC -7000". If nothing shows up in a week or two, then
it is a hoax. We will know for sure by the time April 1st or when
Dayton rolls around.

Since the rumor of the Yaesu FT 958 started out in Europe, and now
the IC-7000 is said to have started in Europe and that we are close
to April 1st. And Icom or the dealers have no information on it, and
there is no FCC data on it... I at this time belive it is a hoax.

Consider one of the sources
on this page both the IC 7000 and the Ft 958 are mentioned.
