Re: Fake - comment from another list

Hi Guys,

I believe we can all afford the modest luxury of waiting until mid-year, to
see whether or not the promised announcement materialises.

A product such as the IC-7000 makes sense, as it is consistent with Icom's
intent to replace analogue HF and "HF-plus" transceivers with DSP-based
designs. To quote an excerpt from a CQ Ham Radio interview with Icom's lead
engineer (Nov. 2001 issue. Translation courtesy JA7UDE.)

The DSP filter is technically interesting, but another reason to use the DSP
for the IF filter is concern about the future availability of mechanical and
crystal filters for HAM use. It is doubtful that those kinds of filters will
be continuously available in the market forever in the future. The DSP
filter is implemented by software and permits easy quality control. IC-746
was the last transceiver that used the conventional analogue circuit for the
RX. ICOM would like to expand the use of DSP to the products in the lower
price ranges.

[Note: The IC-703, which still uses an analogue selectivity filter, was
released after the IC-746. Its architecture lends itself quite nicely to the
replacement of the 455 kHz analogue IF chain by a DSP-IF subsystem.]

I belive it is a hoax. Hell... I was fooled by a website with a
annoucement of the "new" Yaesu FT 958.

I remember we had the same discussion before the Yaesu 857 came out.
What finally ended the hoax rumor was that someone found FCC
documentation on it on a FCC website.

So my suggestion is that keep looking through the FCC websites for
info on the "IC -7000". If nothing shows up in a week or two, then
it is a hoax. We will know for sure by the time April 1st or when
Dayton rolls around.

Since the rumor of the Yaesu FT 958 started out in Europe, and now
the IC-7000 is said to have started in Europe and that we are close
to April 1st. And Icom or the dealers have no information on it, and
there is no FCC data on it... I at this time belive it is a hoax.

Consider one of the sources
on this page both the IC 7000 and the Ft 958 are mentioned.

A radio whose largest target market is North America, and Icom-

And to top it all off, a European magazine "scoops" the rest of
the
planet with this announcement?

Just feels weird to me...like last year's vaporware "Yaesu VX-9R"

Re: Fake - comment from another list

Ladies and gentlemen,

May I suggest that we stop quarrelling about whether the IC-7000 really
exists or not, and simply wait until 2Q/2005 - as the web page "sez"?

As I remarked last week:

If the radio is "for real", as we have reason to believe it is , we will all
rejoice. If it is not, we will all say "Oh well..." and move on. Life is too
short for any other reaction.

Not my comment, don't shoot the messenger.
If it's like most other products, many of the reps have no idea what it

That's the nice thing about it. It is what you want it to be. Until it's announced by Icom, everything about it is conjecture.

from Icom I started to think it is a drawing rather than a picture...

Anyone share the same idea?

Fake?

Rodrigo

Hello all,

Here is why

- There is no natural picture like shadows and shines - The picture is
bright less
- The scope meter shows a very high resolution...I think even on those
modern digital cameras you could not get that level of resolution.
- The writings of the display are way too small for a radio of its size. You
could not read them if you were not facing the radio directly. Try it with
your digicam.
- The writings on the buttons and knobs are all blured..Why? if you can see
the scope meter and its lines so well.
- There is no perspective look on the knobs. They all look as if the picture
was taken directly over them. ( I have a picture of a radio here that you
can see clearly that should be some perspective view on those knobs, which
would be like the knobs of the left should be pointing slightly to the left
and the right VFO should be pointinh also slightly to the right.
- There is only one picture available (It is hard and takes time to make
different drawings os the same object)

So I think:

- It is a stolen sketch from Icom labs for a future new 706
- Or it isnt true at all. Someone with good drawing knowledge is only joking
around.

Has Icom said anything about it?

Well ,for now I would like it to be true, since it sounds like a nice
radio!

Could it be a proto type drawing using computer software? Hey, we all know the 706xxx days are coming to an end. The radio has been around for darn near 10 years already (706, 706mkII, 706mkIIG). The 706mkIIG is going on 6 years old, so I'd bet that ICOM has something on the drawing board right now to replace it. Frankly, I've owned 3 loaded up 706kmIIG's in the last 6 years, and I'm due for a new radio with better technology right about now. Hurry up ICOM!!

When the pic was released by the French magazine it was admittedly a CAD
drawing. But I guess they all start that way!

Re: New details

MKM

Well, I would think that these specs are best guess on their part.

They took the rumors and blended them with the existing 706 specs. I mean look at the weight, power consumption etc..exact same copy of the 706.

Also, 60m band is missing in the specs. I realize these are EU versions but still.

Maybe they saw it here of course...!
