Yes, I mean TCXO, sorry about the confusion.

Here in Canada you can buy a barenaked IC-706mkiiG for CDN$1199 plus
taxes.? The filters come to approximately CDN$150 each.? I have no
idea what the "HSC unit" is.? If you mean the TCXO high stability
crystal unit part CR-282 it costs me CDN$200-CDN$300 including the
recommended professional Icom installation on my IC-706mkiiG.

DSP filters not crystal filters. With dual passband tuning you can
get just about any passband and center frequency in 50Hz and 100Hz
steps respectively as long as it remains below the basic bandwidth
setting for the filter, which is also variable in principle.

It does not run on batteries at this time. But that is because it
does not run at all at this time. Apparently it is still in design
not production.

Price check for the IC-7000

vvv333445

Well, looking at Universal-radio.com here are the current prices for the mobile rigs:

IC-706mk2g with HSC unit and one CW + one SSB filter:

$1,245

FT857ND with HSC unit and one CW + one SSB filter:

$1,140

TS-480 with HSC unit and one CW + one SSB filter:

$1,360

--------------------------------------------

Now, the IC-7000 will not need extra filters and the HSC unit is built-in. If we take the
highest price (Kenwood at $1,360), the IC-7000 being a new radio AND a DSP radio (all
existing radios are analog), you can see or imagine where the msrp and street prices will
be.

-Best

Don't get me wrong.. I already put one on order this AM .... I love to have the first new toys...

I have no idea what I ordered so it will be a surprise when it comes...

Everyone also seems to have forgotten that the US$ is very weak at this time so that prices will much higher than you expect...

I don't really understand the purpose of this group at this point if it is
not to speculate, such as you did on the eventual model number.

A side note: My WAG on the price is MSRP $1,400. If it's that much I
won't be buying it until/if the price comes down. I'm on a fixed
income. As I stated before, I figure the Dayton Hamvention is where
the big promotional info will occur.

Re: How much is the IC-7000 going to cost me?

Hi Howard,

As the whole IC-7000 concept is speculative at this stage, I see no harm in
a healthy dose of speculation. This can often lead to interesting technical
discussion, expressions of wishes/hopes for features and capabilities, etc.

Speculation is encouraged - with the usual caveat that civil and polite
discourse is expected. (The alternative to same will simply not be
tolerated.)

All these people must be smoking something.. the product does not exist
yet...except for a brief mention in a French magazine...of some alleged

too high or too low, speculating on the filter configurations, etc. etc.
etc..

Get a Life Folks.. IT DOES NOT EXIST YET..Stop speculating... you are only
wasting bandwidth...

Wait until it is offically announced in Japan (likely)... or Dayton (less
likely)

I am still betting it wll have a number other that IC-7000

FYI - Like I did for the Pro3 and the SteppIR MonstIR, I am going to HRO

DSP filters not crystal filters. With dual passband tuning you can
get just about any passband and center frequency in 50Hz and 100Hz
steps respectively as long as it remains below the basic bandwidth
setting for the filter, which is also variable in principle.

It does not run on batteries at this time. But that is because it
does not run at all at this time. Apparently it is still in design
not production.

I don't really understand the purpose of this group at this point if it is
not to speculate, such as you did on the eventual model number.

Probable announcement is at some event in France given the source of
the original news (leak?)

Re: How much is the IC-7000 going to cost me?

Hi Ya'akov,

This phenomenon (actual blow-by caused by inadequate stopband attenuation of
the filter, or signal leakage around the filter) cannot occur in a DSP
filter system, as the stopband attenuation and comebacks (lobes) are a long
way below the 0 dBr passband-centre reference.

Have you attempted to measure the blow-by in your 706 by sweeping across the
passband with a signal generator and measuring the audio output in the
passband and stopband?

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Filter ringing is probably what he is hearing. The sharper the
filter
the more the filter rings. And it will ring to the tune of off
frequency
signals as well as on frequency signals.
I should like to disagree. Neither of my two filters ring. Signals 5 kHz off
frequency sneak past the 500 Hz and the 250 Hz filters in the Icom
IC-706mkiiG. I know it is "blow-by" because I hear the signals offset by the
correct amount (2.5 kHz to 7.5 kHz) as high pitched (Morse). I can tune in
these signals and of course they are _much_ louder inside the filter
passband. Signal strengths I am talking about are 40 over S9 within the
filter passband and S5 or less when "blowing by" the filter.

I trust that this is not going to be an issue with the ic7000

Single SLA (gel) cells are often available in the surplus market.

The output of a 7-cell lead-acid battery under C/10 load will range

Works in principle, but short of buying discrete (and very large) 2V cells
and making your own battery, where do you find 7 cell batteries?

If you are correct with pricing then it will be
a big mistake for ICOM.

Of course I want lower prices like everyone else but, this time I truly
believe the radio will cost around the price I stated before. Again
they will not compete with the likes of yaesu ft857 and such.

People will still buy the ft857.

Most of the people on this group will go for the 7000, especially
owners of 7800 and pro3s.

I always been an Icom person. This is like being an Apple fan. Yes they
charge more, but boy what an experience.

the Kenwood 480 has more power or built in antenna

It would have to have more bands like 222MHz to be
worth more than what an 857D goes for.
