Hi William, .My name is Pat Cancro (NK3P) and I am a member of Skyview Amateur Radio Society.
I have read some of your postings on the K3MJW reflector. Tonight I saw your question?regarding connecting an amplifier to a IC-7000. I myself have that model radio, but had not previously thought about hooking mine up that way, but I am interested in?your idea nevertheless.

i'm curious if you have done any research about this issue and would like to talk with you about that.? If you are a member of Skyview and would like to?meet perhaps at the Club before or after next weeks' regular Tuesday meeting or at another time and place if you would prefer.?

If you are interested or even if you are not, please let me know either way by?email at jpc2@... or phone at 724-309-6304.

Regards, Pat Cancro

How do I use the IC-7000 to key an AL-80B? is there a pre-built cable I can purchase? if so where can I get it? thanks in advance

Thanks.

Check the manual for my accuracy but if memory serves me correct your 13 pin connector has a HSend line. This goes to ground with a very limited current rating. Tie this line to an amp keying device between the radio and the amp. The HSend is for when you are using HF, which is what the 80 B is for. Check the group files and you will find some more info. Good luck, read twice , hook up correctly once, no smoke.

William, go here

And download the instruction manual. Amplifier interface is on page 21.

Pay attention to the limits of the circuit.

NEW 8 memories external keypad compatible with 705 #all

Ok guys, here it is the IMK2 Jr, the baby sister of the soon-to-be-released IMK2 that will have added features... The IMK2 is an 8 memories memory keyer for 7610, 7850, and 705, with mute(7850, 7610)/705(Keyer) input in version 2 released end of this month! We decided to 3D print the enclosures ourselves to save time delay related to enclosure manufacturing. I think the result is really nice, first test print was great, the final version in this simulation, look at the assembly and rounded corners really happy with the result. 73 Richard VE2DX?

Also keep watch this month for IMK3Jr for all ICOM HF since 756Prosand some VHF/UHF radios 4 memories keyer. and big brothers IMK2, IMK3 and the dual radios IMK3uP... this month!

Is this a know problem or did you find these defective components through your own trouble shooting? Either way, good job on the repair.

Sounds like the dreaded Click - Click failure where a cap shorts in the control head and drops the CPU that has to communicate with the digital unit in the main unit.?
Sometimes this is an easy fix and sometimes not.?
First try cleaning the panel connectors (you may be lucky).
There are two regulators in the head that provide the +5 and 3.3 volts for the head processor.
What happens is you get the power up signal to pull in the relay and then the CPU in the main unit has a few seconds to get a serial signal from the head to turn the rest of the radio on. Without this signal from the head the relay drops out.
This is repairable and is sometimes easy and sometimes not.
Often it is a cap in the regulator circuit that has shorted and this does require some troubleshooting and can (as I have learned) relatively easy or (in my one case) impossible).
If you Google IC-7000 click - click you should get a number of hits that will guide you in your endeavors.

Re: No power up

SMD or not it depends very much on if the common easily gotten to part has failed.
There are possibilities that are a little deeper in the circuits and pretty difficult to trace in the front panel.
Been there and done that.
I have fixed all but one that I had and in that case I bought another bad panel and was able to repair that one and sold the one with the recalcitrant panel to another 7Ker that needed the display.
A short will not always be in the regulator circuit!

Re: No power up

This is a well-known issue with some of the 7Ks. ?It is well documented amd a pretty easy fix provided you can work with SMDs. Glad you were able to fix it.

For Sale: $300 OBO: IC-700 with an issue

Steve Knoeck

Hi, all. I'm selling my IC-7000 which has unstable power output on all bands.

The HF finals went out on this radio. I decided to take the challenge of replacing them myself. I had no trouble disassembling the rig, soldering in new final transistors, and putting it back together. But as I was performing the realignment, the power output is unstable. I don't know why.

A good technician with the right test equipment might be able to bring this back to life. But the buyer is taking the risk that the radio is ruined beyond repair and only salvageable for parts. (The coveted driver board is one of the newer versions and has no issues.) There is no other damage and little wear and tear.

This radio is doing me no good sitting on the shelf and I'm never going to get around to fixing it properly. I want to make it available to IC-7000 devotees before I recycle it.

Buyer will get the radio, power cable, and printed manual.

$300 plus shipping, or best offer, via Paypal.

Email me privately if there are any questions.

Regards and Happy Holidays!

Steve

Re: Getting Old (hi hi)

I traded up or moved up to an IC-718 from a TS-120.? It came with the DSP module that I installed.?? That was a big upgrade.? After working 100 countries on 80 meter SSB, I was desperate for some CW filters, (the filter between my ears was working too hard) especially for CW contests. But instead of buying the filters I bought the IC-7000 for my car.? The rig moved between my GMC Acadia and my shack very regularly,? ha!
In 2017 I bought a Flex 6600 and Maestro.
After using an IC-7600 in a CW contest I was ready to buy the new IC-7300.? I tried it when it first came, out and I posted that it was "a game changer".? I would have bought one but by 2017 the IC-7610 was on its way to the market.? I tried one but for the price the Flex 6600 is a lot more radio and I really like the Maestro.?? Both SmartSDR and the Maestro have their pros and cons.?
I now have a IC-7300.? I can operate all my Icom rigs remotely, but with the Maestro? the radio is on the Maestro and all the loggers and control windows are on the laptop screen.? I can't say for sure about other SDR RX's but the Flex SDR builds a receiver every 4 Hz, so the filters and DSP work great!?
I used my IC-7300 during a DXpedition to Bimini, Bahamas.?? Another Op used two IC-7300's for FT8 and SSB and another Op used his IC-706.? The SDR was hands down better at rejecting RF from the Kilowatt FT8 station.? And the other IC-7300 ran 100Watt FT8 24/7 without issue.? Even though the IC-706 and IC-7300 both used hi-quality BPFs during the DXpedition, the SDR does a better job keeping unwanted nearby (same band) signals out of the pass band.?
I'm so glad I have a IC-7300.? I will use it next FD and leave my IC-7000 for working the Satellites or as a back up.? And the IC-7300's built-in ATU works great!
I use a LDG AT-100 Pro II with the IC-7000.

Re: Getting Old (hi hi)

Funny that you have to pay a premium for less.
The LAB599 PA-500 is nice looking with an 50-80 watt amp and auto tuner.
Bu the time you have added the accessories it looks like you will have over $2000 pretty easily.
Not a bad radio, especially if you are into QRP.
While I had the IC-705 pictured above I compared it with the IC-7600 below. The receivers were of comparable sensitivity, but I still like the sound of a superhet better on CW.
The IC-7100 was also comparable and none of the recent Icoms I have tried has been significantly better or worse than the others, but they each have their points.
Currently I love the IC-7600 I traded my IC-7300 for as it just sounds better than all of the others (on CW).?
The other issue for me is the touch screens and the menus that an old guy has to remember. I kinda like the control on the front panel, but that takes more space and adds to the cost with more controls to buy and install.
But then you expect more from even an older higher end radio than a mid-range unit.
However if you correct the real cost today for these very good radios with the real cost of the older radios you can see that you are getting a lot for your money!
