Re: Memory Bank Selection with Chirp for IC-7000 #all

OK, Bill, you can't go wrong by just _reading_ a bank via CHIRP, right?
IF you get the goodies OK, then switch to another bank and read it again.
And see if you get correct but different clues....
IF OK, then you can likely _write_ OK too!

Re: Memory Bank Selection with Chirp for IC-7000 #all

Hi, Bill!
Have you actually tried it?
Did you read the modest suggestions?
CHIRP only has to deal with just one bank at a time....
Good Luck!
Gene? :)

I just looked at the information at Chirp.Danplanet.com, and it says that Chirp does not support the Bank Index and Bank Names, but it does support Bank. ?I am not sure what that is really telling us.

Re: Memory Bank Selection with Chirp for IC-7000 #all

Gee, rarely talk to folks in typhoon zones, but I can't even spell GPS....!
Funny you should mention it, but I was planning to update my IC7K soon with some needed changes.
When I asked my fuzzy memory cells what to do, I think they recalled...
1- Build a Complete Load of Basics (All Settings and everything Other than the Bank entries) Plus the Channels (Bank A itself).? Call this LOAD A.
2- Switch the radio On and to Only Bank A.? (Be safe!? Disconnect Mike, and hook up good TX load, JIC!)
3- Load LOAD A.? Which _should_ go down the wires and land in Bank A, with Basics along for the ride!
4- Eyeball & scroll the display and CHECK that LOAD A, with Basics Plus Bank A, arrived warm and safe?
-- Additional Verification Option:? READ the alleged LOAD A, rename to LOAD A Check, and eyeball back in the Program SW, JIC!
5- IF Successful, DUPLICATE the LOAD A File!? Rename to LOAD B!
6- Dump the Bank A entries, and Replace with New Bank B Channel entries.? Don't mess the Basics, of course.
7- GOTO Step 2, BUT to Bank B with LOAD B.
8- Electronically Wash, Rinse, and Repeat, until All FIVE LOADs and Banks are stuffed.
9- Save your FIVE LOAD Files, for future reference, and easy updates.
10- HINT- After successfully crating and loading each of those LOAD files, PRINT each so you have a clue what ya stuffed!
11- Done!
Please let us know if my fuzzy cells were Right, or just lied through their silly neurons?
Good Luck & 73!

Re: Memory Bank Selection with Chirp for IC-7000 #all

At one point, chirp did not support multiple banks for the 7000. I am not sure that feature has been added.

Would you believe? Sent from my shoe phone's big brother and still no keyboard. Please excuse auto connections caused by typhoons.

Re: Memory Bank Selection with Chirp for IC-7000 #all

here's another way to ask the same question...
How do i add to memory bank B using chirp on the ic-7000?

Memory Bank Selection with Chirp for IC-7000 #all

Edited

Is there a way to select different memory banks? in Chirp for the IC-7000? I cannot select bank B, for example, for memories that were added to bank A.

Where is the port for the send signal to the linear on the rear of the IC7000?

Re: PTT outlet and CI-V control

If I remember correctly it is on one of the DIN plugs ACCY 13 pin plug pin 3 (HF)(Page 12 of your manual) . Page 21 of your manual shows the hook up to a non-ICOM linear amp. You may need an external relay. If switching logic level you should be OK.

Re: PTT outlet and CI-V control

Could you use the send signal from the radio that would key a linear to control the SDR switch?
It might work quicker than the C-IV.

PTT outlet and CI-V control

Can the CI-V control outlet on the rear be used as a PTT outlet to control a MFJ-1708 SDR switch?

Scratchy noise on RX

This morning, my IC7000 started producing a very loud "scratchy" noise when in RX.? It is not RF since it will produce the noise with the antenna disconnected, band and mode don't affect the noise.? The radio is normal at power-on, but the noise will start anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes after power-on and comes from either the internal speaker or headphones.? Reducing the AF to 0 silences the noise, and its level tracks the AF somewhat (the noise is VERY loud, so it is easy to hear even at the lowest AF setting above 0).? I tried a different power supply and it took about 30 minutes after it had been off for several minutes.? "Fiddling" with the power cable doesn't affect the issue either way.

Sounds like a thermal-runaway somewhere in the radio, but wanted to see if anyone else had seen this issue before I put the radio on the bench.

Cheers,

Joe

Re: Icom IC-7000 screen issue

Re: Driver Circuit Issue.....

Great job, Tony!
I think that measuring the signal path is really the only way to really repair almost anything.
I have found that sometimes these radios do have bad connections, from the ribbon cables to the feedthroughs etc.
A good 'scope and service manual are pretty much necessary tools. Well at least in the receive circuits.
Thanks for the update.

Re: Driver Circuit Issue.....

Fault Resolved.....
Ok, I traced the missing amplification between the generated signal and the driver to bad bias on Q101 in the pre-driver stage, Q102 was behaving normally, Q101 was attenuating, sometimes a lot, sometimes it even amplified a bit.
After a lit of poking, prodding and track tracing I found the PTT 8V used to bias the pre-drivers was going astray, I then found the track went dead at a passthrough on the board and measured anywhere between 2K and 10K, so I bridged the 2 tracks with a small link wire and it is achieving full power again...
I dropped a bit of UV glue over the link and reassembled the radio, put it through it's paces and all seems tests ok
Hopefully this helps someone if they encounter the same fault :-)
