Hi Helen yes i know i have these issues too add to that when operating long overs are not possible due to these problems. they are amateur radio sets not designed to be used due to the duty cycle

I've used 12V amplified "communications speaker" from Radio Shack for years. They no longer carry them but you can find them on eBay. They will put out enough volume for any passengers to readily

Do you only have the problem when the radio is hot? My oldest 7K is only used mobile now and it exceeds 40 C here often in the summer and I have no problems. My SUV isn't garaged, so it gets HOT

Please ignore. I have trouble shooted and eventually resolved the issue. I have however noticed the Icom runs hot with a burning smell after a couple of hours of use. Do any of you use external fans.
