Re: [IC-7000] CW Mode
The filters are not the crystal or mechanical filters we are used to in most earlier radios but defined in software by the DSP system. This allows the control of the pass band and shape of the filter

Re: [IC-7000] AGC setting?????
This isn't really an IC-7000 question, but one that holds for all operating. AGC speed is a personal thing about what you prefer. If you run it on fast all the time, you'll get tired of listening. If

AGC setting?????
Could someone go over the function of the different AGC settings?? Is there a disadvantage to always setting to AGC-Fast? -Tom, W3TLN

I have to concur with this? but after having read a number of Yaesu and older Kenwood manual?s the Icom manual is very well done and straight forward. The Nifty Manual though is nice because it is

Thanks Gary? yes, I knew about the 250 +- the frequency, but it doesn?t hurt to be reminded of it. Okay, so let?s talk about shape of the filter since you bring it up. Am I to assume that if it has

Auto power off?
Hello everyone. I can't seem to find out how to change the auto power off setting. I know it's in there somewhere because it's set for 1 hour. I feel a "doh" moment coming on when someone tells me

Re: [IC-7000] CW Mode
Theoretically. Truth is, it depends on how good the filter is. If a guy is 40 over 9 just a few KC up/dn the band from the edge of your filter, you'll likely know it. Every filter has a "quality"

Re: [IC-7000] icom 7000 book for dummies
Hi John Soon after purchasing my IC7000 I was advised to buy one of N6FN's "The Nifty mini manual". It is a brilliant buy, condensing the official ICOM manual into a series of simple steps to set up

Re: [IC-7000] CW Mode
Not quite. It shouldn't sound garbled, you just won't hear it, unless there it filter leakage. It shouldn't be garbled unless you are using NR. Another can of worms. :o) Gary -- http://ag0n.net 3055:

Re: [IC-7000] CW Mode
Thanks¡ so if a cw tone were to appear within that filter, then it would sound normal, and outside it would sound all garbled. That makes sense. I opened it up to 2000 Hz last night and it sounded

Re: [IC-7000] CW Mode
For everyday operation, I generally run 400 Hz. It provides good selectivity without sounding too harsh. In contests, or when operating a DXpedition with my 7000, I will often narrow it down to 200 Hz

Hi the signals you hear are not morse or CW which is set in carrier on carrier off but in afsk cw is usually sent in FSK which is carrier on carrier off. AFSK uses a applied tone oscillator. so that

Yes there is a book Ham Radio For Dummies. You can order it from Amazon. It is a very general and basic book but probably not a good book to learn about the basic features of your ICOM 7000. I found

Re: [IC-7000] CW Mode
Check the filter bandwidth settings (both high and low) and also IF shift in case they have been set to some unusual values. Could easily cause the muffled sound you have. Grant, ZL2BK. Sent:
