I use three antennas with my IC-7000, which is my primary mobile rig.
1. EFHW4010 (49:1 transformer) - this antenna is resonant on 40/20/15/10 bands with SWR below 1.7:1 on all bands so I do not need ATU. Before operating I will check SWR on all bands using internal/external SWR meter just in case. I usually operate at 50-80W
2. EFLW (9:1 transformer) - I use ATU-100, before I operate on new band I turn power to 5W and using FM modulation I tune system, then I put power to 50-80W and operate
3. 17ft telescopic whip with loading coil - I don't use ATU, before I operate on new band I adjust coil for the loudest RX signal and then check SWR using internal meter at 5-10W power. Once I have good SWR I operate at 50-80W
My preferred antenna is EFHW4010 as it is easy and quick to set up and has superior performance to other two. I use Long Wire only if I need other bands than 40/20/15/10 and whip with a coil when space is limited and putting up EFHW is problematic. Hope this helps.
I setup EFHW and LW as inv-L with vertical section of 6-7mtr and rest as horizontal as possible.
