Maybe a bad/loose connection?
Mine has the "TV" mod (for what it is worth ;) ) and sometimes when I exert moderate pressure on the bottom of the control panel, the display goes all goofy (i.e., smearing or blanking out) until I let go. Found this by coincidence, and it does not happen every time. Otherwise, the display works great. When I get some time, I may look into the display/control head to see if there is anything obviously wrong.

Did he try undoing his mod (putting the diode back in that he took out)?

Probably did not ground himself with a static strap when he did the mod and zapped something with static ....
An expensive lesson!!

Hi everyone, a friend of mine who is very skilled with a soldering station did the tv mod to his 7000 for experimentation, and after he removed the diode the display went all funny scrolling as if the horizontal adjustment was required. Does anyone have an idea what went wrong and how to correct this issue? thanks.
