See the files section in the [email protected]?all is posted there.

Conversion of Protel and Tango based PCB and 274-D to X Conversion - Document Completed

Hello,

Anyone that needs to convert PCB or 274-D to 274-X Gerbers and also merge drill files please head on over to my SprintLayout group
and join up. [email protected]

There in the files section you will find a step by step document that will take you through the process, some sample files from Protel products for testing, and a software
tool needed to do the conversion.

There is a section near the end of the document that will guide you through the process of importing the converted files into SprintLayout to make a editable
PCB file as well. This is a bonus feature of the conversion process. It works really well.

Anyone who is using these older DOS tools will immediately see the advantage of moving to newer very low cost tools that will run in Windows or Linux.
You can also easily use the Sprint program to do Toner Transfer and even CNC routed PCB's.

I hope that you find the document and the conversion utility useful as many hours have gone into it.

There is a link in the document for the utility author and his web site, as well as a copy of the utility (V4.2) in the files section in the SprintLayout Group.

If you find the software tool to be useful to you, please send an email to Les and thank him for so graciously updating the program adding features to make the 274-X file import almost effortless for SprintLayout. There is a email address in the document for the author and also for his web site.

P.S. The tool was recently modified to be able to handle ASCII TangoPCB Series II DOS files as well. This feature is new and has been tested with a few layout so if you use it and find anything that needs attention please contact the utility author.

The usual disclaimer: I do not have any financial or other interest in the company that wrote the SprintLayout program. I am just a very satisfied customer who has used
the amazingly powerful PCB layout program for over 10 years and I have made nearly 1000 PCB designs from it during that time. Great program, easy to learn and use,
about the cost of dinner for six at McDonalds, permanent license, no weird keys or dongles, excellent support (very rarely needed) and amazing resolution and graphics. Probably the most bug free PCB CAD program I have ever used and I have probably tried them all!

I hope that the conversion process helps you make your own boards!

All the best,

Re: Protel AutoTrax DOS 274-D Files for the demo board anyone?

Thank you for the link but:

I have the demo file for AutoTrax. I am looking for one from the EasyTrax package if there was one and a set of Gerber files generated from that package for that file or a PCB file and a set of gerbers that one knows where they came?from.
I no longer have any way to install the original files.

Also I have the Bob Barnes files but it seems that those files have issues with multiple drill hits when I convert the file to Gerbers so I don't know if the original file had that problem or if the issue is in the conversion process so I would like to get that figured out.

I found a way to generate these files out of TraxMaker (Which I believe would be the same as AutoTrax DOS) but I would really like to have them out of EasyTrax DOS and AutoTrax DOS if anyone could generate them for me.

Thanks!

Protel AutoTrax DOS 274-D Files for the demo board anyone?

Does anyone have a set of 274-D files of the demo.pcb from AutoTrax DOS? I need a set for tests and no longer have a DOS system
that can generate them.

Thank you,

Sam

Re: Need PCB maker who can use Easytrax

Once I get the chance I'll work up a paper on it. Still finalizing the details and checking artwork. If anyone has an EasyTrax (not AutoTrax) pcb file that they could send to me I would like to do some more testing as there are some issues with the silkscreen. It may have to do with rotated parts I do not know. I need some real artwork other than the demo boards. All artwork will be held in confidence if it is sensitive in nature but please state so.

Does anyone know of a PCB manufacturer who can work with the old PCB files? Or if not, is there any software that converts Easytrax or Autotrax .pcb files to a more modern format? I'm in Melbourne, Australia.

Morris,
You can download EasyTrax v2.06, which does have Gerber capabilities, from?
Also, a "Windows" version of AutoTrax at the same address. ?It also has Gerber capabilities.

Protel Systems, which later became Altium, originated both softwares.

Good luck with your project.

I am unaware?of any PCB house that can still use EasyTrax. Any software that would convert from EasyTrax to another format would also be long gone by now and would have only converted to an old version of some other format, leaving you in the same position! You might try exporting to an image format and then using an image to Gerber. If you do, be sure to check your board for proper dimensions?and placement. Sometimes errors crop into the image conversion and a few adjustments may be needed.

If you ask me if it can be done. The answer is YES, it can always be done. The correct questions however are... What will it cost, and how long will it take?

Re: which laminator should I buy for doing toner transfer

PCB site used to recommend Apache brand. I have seen a simular one in orient. They have four screws under them for different board thickness which can be helpful. You cannot go wrong with my apache at all.

Re: which laminator should I buy for doing toner transfer

I don't know of any that will do in one pass but this one has worked well for me and is the same one that PCB Fab-in-a-Box recommends. Shop around you may find it for less. I have tried quite a few and this one works well and has a temperature adjustment.

IIRC this is where I bought mine.
