Hey guys & gals,
?? On the Steve Miller " Fly Like An Eagle " thing...
yeah what a scorcher of an organ track! It was why
I bought the high-priced ticket to see the show on
that summer's tour. Imagine my dissappointment
when, instead of having the real Hammond and at
least a player ( if not the MAN himself ) ,they played
to some kinda' sequenced track. Totally cheesey
and I've never forgiven Miller for that. What a
bozo! Hey, who was the guy who tracked the
Hammond on " Fly Like An Eagle " anyway? Can't
remember now after all these years.

Oh yeah, sorry.....
??? I wanted to mention " In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed "
by the Allman Brothers Band as a pretty killer organ
track ....especially on the " Live at Fillmore East "
record which has lots of great Hammond moments.
Gregg Allman at the absolute pinnacle of his career
and creativity! Enjoy!

Hi Jimmy,
?
in connection with the eagle, ever since i've heard the track?I keep on wondering how the guy succeeded to play his organ like that. Maybe?he recorded multiple tracks and mixed them together? He managed to have?some slight pitch changes on some attacks of several notes in this track, did you notice that? I wonder how he did that... or is it some acoustic mix of Leslie, vibrato/chorus?
He also uses his swell pedal very good, I think.

Hi guys, My name is Bernie, and I live in Australia. This is the first time
I've actually wrote to the group, but have read your interesting letters
and ideas for a few months now.
I have a video at home I listen watch now and then, it's a concert
performed by Roger Walters? ( Not sure of his surname), (ex Pink) and
friends, Its called the wall, and was performed when the Berlin Wall came
down, not real sure of the details, but anyhow what remained in my mind was
the solo part played on a Hammond in 'Another Brick in the Wall'. It was a
fantastic sound.

I do play myself, unfortunately I don't have a Hammond, but I love the
sound and quite enjoy listening to a few albums I have such as Klaus
Wunderlich. My father has of album of a guy named Earle (?) Grant, and I'm
sure he played a Hammond, but he had quite a unique style of playing.

Cheers,
Bernie Delaney

Bob Rasmussen

"Green Eyed Lady" by a group called Sugarloaf from
around 1970 has a kick-ass Hammond! Probably one of
the best top 40 organ solos you will ever hear.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Talking of "No Woman No Cry", most Bob Marley songs have a Hammond in them.? "Iron Lion Zion" is very good as well.
?
As for solos, it's a bit obscure, but "Friday Night, Saturday Morning" by The Specials has a lovely bluesy solo in it.? Many Ska songs have Hammonds in, Jerry Dammers of The Specials was a great Hammond player.? Another good Ska one..."Monkey Spanner" by Dave & Ansell Collins, I heard it at a disco and just had to buy the record because it sounded so fantastic.? Quite rare though...
?
Also, how about "Let It Be"?By The Beatles or "All The Young Dudes" by Mott The Hoople...that has a superb Hammond part in it, not a solo, but the slow Leslie is put to great effect.

Hey Wim,
??? Yeah that's an amazing track. I never really
thought of it as more than a single track, but it
is a particularly great one. Lots of emotion and
yes the expression pedal had a lot to do with
creating that. I'll have to listen again very closely
to see if I can pick out the pitch changes you
mention. I've done this one in bands over the
years and it's always of favorite of the band
and the audience. Sorry y'all, but don't even
try this one on a clone...might hurt yourself!

Hey Dave,
??? If you can get hold of Don Patterson's album
" These Are Soulful Days " ( not sure it ever made
it to CD ) and check " Muse Blues " you'll hear
about 17 minutes of the rippinest Hammond B-3
blues I have ever found. OH MY GOD? ! ! !
Otherwise, Groove Holmes, Jimmy McGriff and
Jack McDuff ( among others ) all rip some fine
jazzy Hammond on the bluesy side.
???????? Good Luck and keep it spinnin',

Richard Groove Holmes, in my opinion, is your only choice. You already have
Jimmie and Joey. Try one of the following CD titles:

(1) After Hours
(2) Groovin' with Groove
(3) Groove's Grove

Hi Bernie ?Im from Dallas Tx I have Earl Grants albums from the Fifties and ??
60,s ??Also there is a new cd that has all of his hits on it cant think of
the label right now ?but he also sang like Nat King Cole ??his biggest hit
was ?Ebb Tide ??later Michael

Thanks Michael, Good to hear from you. I'll have to see if I can track down
that CD here in Australia, It'd be great to get one, as he was fantastic.
I 've quite often inquired about his music, but not many people here have
even heard of him, which is a great shame.
Thanks again.
