Re: [hammond_zone] leslie 760 amp

Chris Clifton

Hi Gandert,
If I remember correctly, The black wire to the crossover is ground, the
green is +30 volts, and the red going to the connection by the volume
control is signal input. The two output wires are, red bass and orange
treble. As long as you get the power supply and ground connections right,
then test at low volume to start. You won't do any damage if the outputs
are the wrong way round, it'll soon be obvious if treble is coming from the
15" speaker and bass from the horns, and as long as the volume is really low
no harm will be done. Obviously if you find you have bass and treble the
wrong way round switch off swap the connections and try again.
What's wrong with the 760 amp. anyway? It may well be cheaper to repair than
to buy a new amp.

Hi zone,

I'm still very busy to get the 760 working. But another problem occured.
The amp is broke. I already knew that. But i thought that what new crossover
I should be able to connect the 760 speakers directly to my L100 amp. Well,
not. The ohmage will be too low then. Now I'm searching for a new stereo amp
that will handle a 4 and a 16 ohm speaker. But I still need a crossover. I
thought maybe i'should be possible to use the 760 crossover.
I went to take a look at it but i can't figure it out. I can see 3 wires
are going to the crossover and only two are going out. One wire is going to
the treble amp and another to the bass amp. how should I wire this to a new
stereo tube amp? presuming the left side of the amp is bass and the right
side is treble.

I decided to remove them and start with a fresh set.Well it wasn't as easy

works

all the adhesives were removed i took automotive polishing compound and
worked it into each key. This brought back much of the lustre. Then i went

Hi Nick. I'm glad he tracked one down, I remember he said there was one
in
Perth, they've quite hard to find in oz. I've still got to call him, and
have a beer with him on day, he's a bit closer to me than yourself, he
only
works a couple of blocks away, and I'll get to go to one his gigs soon too
hopefully. Out of interest, I was looking at a really nice B3 with twin
122
leslies on Ebay yesterday, they looked really beaut, unfortunately out of
my price range, and a bit far away for me.

I brought a Yamaha E70 last year for AU$600.00, and it's a nice organ,
good
sound and I thought the price was good considering they sold new for
around
AU$17,000.00 in the early 80's.

I used to play a Hammond 122 when I was at school in around 1983, and it
was a really nice sounding organ, and wouldn't mind buying one if I come
across one for the right price, as its all about being in the right place
at the right time.

Bernie Delaney

Eric,
Not so with the wax caps, my friend. This is not a purely "Hammond"
thing, either. When I removed the wax caps from my C-3, they had changed
value anywhere from 20 - 80%. Fact, because I measured there values out
of circuit. This does not mean anything is wrong with the generator
itself. Inductors do not change value (usually) over the years. In my
vintage amp work, I change many wax coupling caps. Now, mylar, metalized
propylene, silvered mica, etc. are completely different in construction
and are much more stable. These caps can and do remain stable for
decades. I'm a firm beliver in recapping. My ears are, too.
