Re: [hammond_zone]"Not once will his fingers leave his hands..."

Quite all right!

I remember though wondering about his drumkit on the lp cover. Thought to myself, man is that beat up!

I had a similar experience with Alan White of Yes. I played with him at a drum clinic here in town a few years back. When Yes was in town last month, my husband was playing section percussion in the orchestra. Alan and him got into a lengthy discussion about his gear etc...and he introduced me to him, he remembered the clinic and gave us backstage passes to meet the band after the show.

It was a great experience to meet my heroes in the prog rock world after all the years of admiration for what they did to bring rock music to a "thinking person's level."

Absolutely! And at what volume! Bare with me for
this story. I was
in a nine piece band, git, bass, drums, two
trumpets, sax, trombone, a
Janis Joplin clone on git and keys and our front man
6 foot 5 inches
tall and sing like a madman, in fact 8 of us sang.
Had a gig in a small
town, two weeks-six nights/week, the owner, a grey
haired bent up old
dude, kept coming up and telling us to turn it down.
Out of spite we
played as quitely as humanly possible, the grey dude
came back up and
said that's perfect. Someone on the other side of
the bar put a coin in
the juke box and we could honestly hear the music
while we were playing.
We continued to play this way and after two weeks
there was a noteable
improvement, we listened to each other better and
the tunes really
tightened up, it was wonderful practice. The band
was smokin' but just
to big to get paid anything worthwhile. BTW I was
playing trumpet and
doubling on keys.
Don't forget to leave spaces...
Thanks again for putting up with the story.

Hey Jim,

There are choices to make in that area. Been there . Done that! I narrowed
my choice between the XK-2 and the VK-7. The Nord was not out at the time
and neither was the new CX-3. The XK-2 was my choice. To me, it has a better
sound to it and the keys on the XK-2 have a better to it. The Leslie on both
is just OK! Just recently, I aquired a 145 and use it whenever possible. To
me at least, this combo sounds pretty close. Matter of taste, I guess. Let
us know if you check out the NORD ELECTRO.

Hi Jim,

I really like my VK-7 and use it on almost everu gig!
You've just gotta tweak the settings a bit and then you're off with it!
Feel free to ask me any questions,

Cheers,

Roger

Hi keyzards!
I have a C3 but I usually play VK7 through a fender Super-Reverb '65 on stage (clubsand small stages) and it sounds great to me...
I also played CX3 on a music-shop and looks great, sounds great, good keys, but ...too expensive for me !!!!
if you want hear my VK7 just go to my site (audio samples):
...let me know what you think about it...
I tried playing the Roland on a direct to the P.A. but wasn't that good, that's why I decided to use the distortion and the reverb of real tube amp.
thanks for reading...
peace.

Re: Which Clone?

One more thing on the CX, Iheard it won`t take a pedal board, so
if you ever decide to add pedals, you can`t. Casey

In all fairness, there are some areas where Hammond-Suzuki fell on

Clones and more Clones?
My regular set is a 1936 BC, trek II percussion and 145, but at 48
years old I can't haul that thing anymore in fact I down right refuse
to. I'll pay someone to move it if it is worth it, ya gotta make a
living too. Any way I went for the VK-7 (the price was great) and It
took about 3 months of playing and tweaking and going through the
dreadful Roland manuals, but you know the distortion overdrive and the
keyclick are sounding good (or I'm getting used to it) put through a
decent system where you can mess with the EQ cause yes the VK-7 is a
little thin on its own and in a band setting to me it is just fine. Now
I save the old beast for in the studio when the boys come in and we wail
for our own satisfaction, maybe once a year it goes out anymore and that
will become less I'm sure unless you can afford or find someone to move
it.
But then again I have a big gig this Nov. and I'll be taking the
beast because it is an important show.

Just my thoughts, gotta scoot dudes
Spin what ever ya can!
Dan

Re: Which Clone?

I highly recommend the Korg CX-3. The reason is because of its
versatility....you can apply it to many situations. The presets will
get you close to where you are going right off the bat, and when you
use the drawbars to modify these you get a whole palette of colors. It
doesn't weigh alot so its easy to tote around. You can split the board
to play bass with the left hand and its internal leslie is not bad.

The XK-2 is fabulous when connected with a real leslie, but its one
more thing to haul around. So, I guess its a choice on how much you
are willing carry from show to show.

Re: Which Clone?

To my ears, the Roland ain`t even in the ball park. What I liked
about the Roland was the extra sounds. The CX-3 was nice, its Leslie
simulation sounded a little brittle to me. I could tell it was
electronic. And the price was too high. I went with the XK2, to my
ears it was the most B3 sounding of the three, plus it simply had the
word "HAMMOND" on it. Casey
