Re: C-3 s/n 94767

Much is involved in opening the manual to fix the fault on 16' A3 note. Very likely, this is a foam related problem and the resistor wire to this contact will have been corroded away by the acid produced by the decomposing foam. Other resistor wires in both manuals are likely to be also affected, although not yet corroded through.

Low volume when switching vibrato on/off is likely to be related to the circuitry around one of the 6AU6 valves on the pre-amp. One of these valves is the first stage pre-amp for the vibrato channel, the other the non-vibrato channel. Open circuit, or at least much higher than nominal value anode and screen grid resistors are a common cause of low volume on one or the other (or both!) of these pre-amp channels.

There were a couple of real problems.
1/ bottom C pedal not playing properly (fixed, was lever bent not pressing far enough)
2/ A3 note on upper manual not playing with either drawbar set A and B.
3/ no vibrato function for upper or lower keyboard. When switching vibrato on the volume drops significantly and sounds distorted if swell raised to try to hear it.

How mush is involved in opening up to fix the A3 16' key contact?

Is it possible that someone has disconnected the vibrato?
What should I be looking for??
Is this serial number likely to have foam?

It was quite clean. I cleaned it more and oiled it.

The local repair place I had planned to take her to has lost their Hammond Tech with no replacement in sight.

Can anyone suggest a Hammond Tech in Denver Metro? This is really too lovely an organ to trust to me doing the work.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: fitting leslie to Hammond C2

To expand on Wes' reply, either of the G outputs can be used for the rotary audio signal input to the Leslie. I believe I put a spade lug on my ground wire and put it in between one of the amp chassis mounting screws and the chassis itself. A star washer would help make sure you have good ground continuity since the chassis is painted.

Re: 1960 B3/C3 Chop - New Look

First of all, COOL! Looks like a nice chop job. Second, I would highly recommend either plain old black paint, or some sort of Rhino liner type material instead of carpet. Maybe even some sort of vinyl or tolex like what was used on the Rhodes piano. Looks much more professional, easier to keep clean.

R100s dont have a vibrato scanner/delay line as the internal rotosonic leslie was deemed (probably by Hammond accounts dept!) to take care of animation.
It's got to be the ugliest tonewheel organ Hammond ever produced imo. They do have an interesting bass section- the lowest tg tones are amplified & clipped into square waves by transistor circuits, allowing them to be divided, gated & tone-shaped with sustain. T

Half moons is good. R100 has an internal Leslie and IIRC was set up for a 710 from the factory. Good chance two of the half moons are
Connected to a 26-1 kit and Leslie 147.

Worth checking out for sure. R100 is a good organ.

Sadly, it may well be that this guy will finish up paying someone to cart the organ and Leslie away. The R-100, although a tonewheel organ, is not particularly desirable, and the 610 Leslie is even less likely to sell!

Re: What Leslie Goes with a Hammond R-100 Series Organ?

Probability is, with three half moons, and connected to an R-100 it will be a 610 Leslie. From Captain foldback, "Dual roto-sonic drum speaker. Was paired with the model R-100 Hammond organ for a more theatre organ-like sound. May also be used with the older H-100 organ. Leslie model 205 is similar but has a different cabinet.". The two roto-sonic drums are controlled independently, hence the three half-moons, Echo, and two drum controls.

The 610 Leslie is practically useless with any Hammond organ other than the R-100, although I have seen a 610 connected to an all transistor, non-tonewheel N-series organ. It's also quite unlikely that any of the popular Leslies suitable for use with most tonewheel Hammonds would have been connected to an R-100, the signal routing in the R-100 makes a two channel Leslie with separate stationary and rotary channels a must. The three switches rule out most of the common Leslie models as well. The only Leslie series suitable for use with most organs that used three half-moons would be the 910 and similar, where the third switch was used to control a reverb system in the Leslie. The 900 series Leslies all came in a blue vinyl covered cabinet, if the cabinet attached to the organ has a wood finish, it isn't a 900 series.

Given that the R-100 isn't by any means the best of the Hammond tonewheel organs, and the 610 Leslie is basically only good for parts, I would give this one a miss if I was you.

Smooth Drawbar conversion

Hello,
Hoping someone can point me in the right direction....I am hoping to replace the ratchet style drawbars on my CV with smooth ones, but smoothdrawbars.com seems to have gone offline, and the email address seems to have expired as well.

Does anyone here know where I can find a comparable conversion kit? I'm not overly tech savvy, so a kit would be easier for me than trying to convert from scratch.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - Thanks much!

Re: Hammond L-100-P

If you've got both the L-100 and Porta B schematics, you've probably got as much information as anyone. The L-100-P was the European version of the L-100/Porta B. All three organs are built around the same basic electronics, but with some variations in the tab switching to give slightly different features (5th harmonic percussion on the portable versions for example). I've got a number of second hand keys and some stop tabs for these organs. There are companies in USA that specialise in Hammond organ parts, they will have a bigger range of parts.

1960 B3/C3 Chop - New Look

I'm planning to re-cover my 1960 B3 (C3?) chop with new carpets/hardware. What's everyone thinking on looks? I'm thinking dark charcoal grey and black myself, given the original wooden blocks/rack sections are cig burned. I kind of like that (from previous owners) but I think cosmetically it needs a re-fresh.?

What you say?
