Intresting observation

normiii84501

It's an interesting thing but "Old Time Radio" 1930's & 1940's was
pretty good stuff. It chalanged your imagination. Contemporary
Broadcasting of any kind, ie. TV or Radio, has not learned this
lesson. They depend on shock value for their Nielson Ratings and
that's junk. Now what's this to do with a bunch of folks who fix
old Hammond Organs and play them? If your Imagination hasn't been
chanlenged then I guess you are sort of brain dead. I have never
worked harder at improving my playing. My skills at keeping the "Old
Girl" running and sounding good are improving as well. Best thing
that could have happened to me was I picked the X-77. I got it for
$500.00 US in living room condition. Needed some internal work and I
am doing that after 25 years of designing power line distribution
systems. Another thing I still process my own Black & White film in
the laundry room. It's too bad that more folks have not discovered
the magic of the Senior Hammonds. Nuff Said

Re: [hammond_zone] sad story

Raul I think you mentioned that there is a difference in sound with the BV
and B3 and a few others... like there are more tonewheels or something or a
difference in frequencies. Can you elaborate? If I was playing one, then
playing the other what would I hear? Thanks! George

There are other people hosting free email group services,
for one. As long as there are other services
Yahoo! will never get away with it, people will just go elsewhere. I'm
sure other companies have tried charging for previously free internet
services and seen their "customer" base walk away!

Hi all,

This is regarding the move by Yahoo to possibly begin charging for
services
that in the past have been free. Some of you have said that if that takes
place you'd be gone. That would truly be a shame if that came to pass.A
group
of this size and with such passion for these instruments should remain
intact. So what to do.I don't know myself. So maybe some brainstorming might
be
in order.Everyone put on their thinking caps. What other alternatives are
there for keeping the group together should yahoo put the kabosh on the
group.

The B3/22H I have was full of mold among other things from sitting
unused in a very moldy little country church for years. Got it for $450,
non working. Put 2K or so into it and it is as good as new!

Not such a thing as "too much Hammond". You are bringing up the kids

I'm with George!!! I too grew up most of my life with no TV and I'm thankful
for it. Kids at school thought I was crazy. They just couldn't imagine life
without a TV and what do you do???? with your time. Yes, we had a close
family and were creative and read and practiced music and all kinds of
interesting things. My kids 13 and 8 have been without a TV all there life
and they both are top readers the 13 year old girl plays sax and piano and
sings in church. the 8 year old boy sings and started learning guitar. Throw
the TV out. It's like eating out of a garbage can!!!!!!! Sam

Re: [hammond_zone] sad story

Hank Marr told me a story about one of his B3s getting a "shower" from
a park sprinkler that came on at its regularly programmed time (when it
was supposed to be disengaged for the duration of this particular
festival). This organ was repairable, too. The organ was watched and
kept safe from theft overnight, but apparently not from the sprinkler
system.

Got to keep that grass green ya know at all costs....(rolling my eyes at
the incompetence of some of our city employees....)

Hmmm....boo-boo, here. i ment the CV/Leslie would represent the higher end at the $2,000 you stated. Sorry.
I agree, but is you CV a full B-3 in another cabinet? There is a CV with a 760 currently on e-bay at $2000.00 Is that a good number???

Re: [hammond_zone] sad story

Raul de Jalapeno

Laddie:
Absolutely, no on the full B-3. However, pick through the pros and cons, here. First the pros: Start with the Tone Generator. The BV/B-2 series has the complex tone generator with the extra frequencies as opposed to the B-3. Many prefer that sound. The manuals are top notch. No funky foam, so were OK there. The pre-amp. Even though the preamp requires an outside B+ feed, the electronics are superb. Ask Ken-BCV what I thought of this thing at first...weird! But, after I made a schematic of it and understood the circuitry, I recanted publicly and understood that this thing's cool! Again, I've found a number of folks who prefer this sound over the B-3 preamp. I, myself, prefer the growl of my CV over that of my C-3. The drawback of the pre-amp is the lack of single-ended amp stages makes it hard to fit third-party accessories like Trek IIs reverb. I have a workaround for that, however. Now the cons: The drawbars stink. I'm converting mine to the *-3 style right now. Vibrato affects both manuals at the same time. No soft/normal switch. No percussion. This last is a pro or a con depending on how you feel. Myself, I like the Trek II percussion unit better than the factory B-3 unit. So, your right, they are not B-3s. but they are a great organ. in fact, if someone wanted to kit out their console with accessories of their choosing, I think the BV/CV and B-2/C-2 might be better choices to start with. In addition, they are much less expensive than their *-3 counterparts. You can spend your dough on the mods you want and have a great organ!
Regarding prices, I think the group will concur that a real good C-3 with a tone cab will bring about $2,500 max and about $5,000 max with a good Leslie. I'd say that the CV with the 760 would represent the higher end of that combo, if the both pieces were really good. What does the group think?

Cris, I suppose I could feed the PR-40 directly from the G-G

adding a xfrmr........the leslie kit would still connect to G-G, as
well.....
That would be the standard way to do it (hook up both a PR and a Leslie,
that is.) (You don't get reverbe switching that way though.)

Hi George,
I agree with yop that these organs are precious, but not because the
dont't make them anymore. They are precious to us because we like them.
There is always plenty of Hammonds out there for sale so they are not
exactly rare.
The person probably knew what they were doing, the organ just was not worth
much if anything to them.
It happens all the time with many things. One mans junk is another mans
treasure, so it goes.

On the watch for neglected and abused Hammonds,
Ron Bell.

I'm shocked! These organs are precious because they aren't being made
anymore, nor could they be like they used to be made. Somebody didn't
know
what they were doing or what they are worth. George

Re: [hammond_zone] hooking up a-100 to 47leslie

Ron Bell

Hi Laddie.
Depends who and where you are, and whether you are buying from a dealer or
privatley.
$1000.00 American seems like alot to me but might be normal for your
location. Anyone know what Leslies can be found for in Fla., there must be a
few around with all the old folks retiring and then expiring in that area
{sorry if that sounds a little morbid}.
I live in Victoria B.C. and I have met a few people selling there late
parents Hammonds and Leslies. They are usually quite happy to let it go for
a good price to someone who will appreciate them.
99.99999 per cent. of people are not stark raving mad about Hammonds and
Leslies like some of us are, to them they is just big, heavy, tacky things
taking up space. Hence people leaving them in the rain. Most of the people
who ask what instrument I play don't even know what a Hammond is let alone a
Leslie. Then there are people who look on ebay and see a 125 going for $600
and want no less for it.
So to answer your question, pay whatever you think is fair but do your
research and keep your eyes open.

Happy Hammond{and Leslie} hunting,
Ron Bell.

Ron,
In your opinion how much should I pay for a 760 in reasonably good shape?
Thanks,
Laddie

Re: [hammond_zone] hooking up a-100 to 47leslie

Ron Bell

You wont have to swich them. The 6 to 6 cable will go from the kit to the
Leslie, you don't even use the 5 pin out on the AO-39.

The organ connects to the kit though the socket labled console, how many
pins does this part of the kit have?.

Look at the 26-1 diagram and it will make sence.

Ron Bell.

Hi ron,

The plug on the back of the ao-39 is a five pin.I think my leslie type 47
has
a six pin plug on it.I just bought a section of 6 wire cable with ends
already attached.I'll have to switch these around won't i .

True, Laddie. But a B-2 and a BV can be great pieces. I don't know what I'd do if I failed to save my CV from the dump. Save the tonewheels, folks!

The group could set up their own e-mail system.. maybe that would do it. I would cost a few dollars and I do mean like
under $100.00 It would have its own URL and ISP number. And the usual URL maintenance fee.
