FTX Assy / Dis-Assy Instructions
Does anyone know of of have access to FTX assy details, dwgs, etc.
It would be good to have access to. I had an issue recently where a few bolts had backed out and it was not the easiest to resolve without some partial disassy. I rectified it with with an allen wrench but did so without disassembling it as much as I would have liked to ensure the wrench was completely square to the screw. I love my FTX but would appreciate assy instructions so that if i ever? do need to disassemble I can be sure not to do anything untoward. |
Re: New file for the files section
开云体育Thanks for sharing Spencer. I’ve uploaded it to “files” section together with all other files from Charles.Howard On Mar 19, 2021, at 06:53, Spencer Pratt <never2dark@...> wrote:

New file for the files section
Howard,
I just found this file from Charles explaining the setup and use of the FT-Q and didn't see it in the files section. ?I started to upload it, but when I navigated away to find the file, my upload popup disappeared and I couldn't get it back. ?This may be a good reference for people when the mounts change hands. |
Re: Tripod for FTX Mount with TQR attachment
I'm using Takahashi EM-200 wood tripod for my FTX v2 and I even tried a 5" refractor on it, all good. The best thing to use a Tak wood tripod is there is you can use one additional screw to fix the TQR on top of the tripod and I always feel only one 3/8 screw is not sufficient to support a heavy telescope. I attached two photos to show this. The shortcoming is the Tak tripod is long and heavy. I also attached a photo to compare it with my AP Traveler soft case.

Re: Tripod for FTX Mount with TQR attachment
Any sufficiently sturdy photography tripod will work, but it just needs to be flat on the top with the 3/8" stud. ?I have an FT-Q and an FT-X (1.5) sharing one TQR and I commonly use a Manfrotto MT057C3G, a Gitzo GT2542S, an Oberwerk TR-3 and an Berlebach Planet with the Nova Hitch top plate. ?The only one I probably wouldn't recommend is the Gitzo for your FT-X since it's sort of spindly-legged and has damping issues with heavier weights. ?I think it's fine for the FT-Q and a smaller scope.
The Manfrotto is awesome for grab-n-go because it's light, strong and packs up reasonably small and tight. ?The two wooden tripods are more of a bear to carry around without some kind of bag or tie. I am in the market for another TQR or two - whether it is just the base or pier or the whole thing, so if someone wants to part with one, make an offer! |
Tripod for FTX Mount with TQR attachment
Guys, I'm in the process of acquiring a FTX mount.? I've owned a HH Mod2+ for the last 10 years.? It sits on a K&B Tripod #1003, aka a Televue Gibralter.? Works great, but my new FTX with the quick release plate seems to want a tripod top/base that is flat.? With a hole for the 3/8" bolt and additional holes for the TQR "plate"?.? Well, I'm jumping the gun.? My "new" mount is in the mail.? But I'm thinking that I'm going to need another mount.? Any suggestions??

Re: AP Traveler on FTX v2
Very nice rig!? I like that Takahashi tripod, too! On Sun, Jan 17, 2021 at 6:29 AM Howard Gao <gaozhenyu@...> wrote: Today I tried AP Traveler on my FTX v2 and it’s extremely easy to use. The mount seems an overkill for the 4 inch refractor. With the tak tripod it’s not a g&g setup but still I can get ready for observing in very short time. |
FTX Lock Hysteresis
Anyone have an issue with hysteresis in the with the altitude lock, but only with the lock assy itself when the cam-lock is engaged?
There is none when unlocked and the mount is moved in the altitude axis? Mount has not been used much. I think it's always been there. Is this an easy thing to fix?? Thx |
New Topic - upgrading encoders
I have an FT-Q and an upgraded FTX v 1.5 with two different step encoders - FT-Q is 4096 and FTX is 5000.? This generally causes much confusion for me and my SkySafari when I'm setting up.? I'm using an AstroDevices Nexus and a Nexus DSC respectively.?? My thought is to update?both mounts to 10,000 step encoders, but the link to 10k encoders on a post here shows that they are larger at 2.something inches.?? Does anybody have recommendations for encoders which would be drop-in compatible for both the FT-Q and FTX?? I'd like to keep those nice machined covers. Thanks in advance! Spencer |
