Any sufficiently sturdy photography tripod will work, but it just needs to be flat on the top with the 3/8" stud. ?I have an FT-Q and an FT-X (1.5) sharing one TQR and I commonly use a Manfrotto MT057C3G, a Gitzo GT2542S, an Oberwerk TR-3 and an Berlebach Planet with the Nova Hitch top plate. ?The only one I probably wouldn't recommend is the Gitzo for your FT-X since it's sort of spindly-legged and has damping issues with heavier weights. ?I think it's fine for the FT-Q and a smaller scope.
The Manfrotto is awesome for grab-n-go because it's light, strong and packs up reasonably small and tight. ?The two wooden tripods are more of a bear to carry around without some kind of bag or tie.
I am in the market for another TQR or two - whether it is just the base or pier or the whole thing, so if someone wants to part with one, make an offer!
