Re: USB question and error messages

Scope shows essentially nothing, very, very low level random noise.

Good News :-)

If U have installed build 280 or 281, your start menu should contain an entry for "G8JCFSDR Trace Mode".

The G8JCFSDR was developed back in 2003, initially under W95 on a 333MHz Celeron with 64MBytes (yes megabytes!!) of RAM, and I still run the G8JCFSDR up on a VM running XP to check compatibility.

Anyway, re the missing audio driver, does the XP PC have the correct audio driver(s) installed ? The G8JCFSDR uses DirectX for AF in/output, so run DxDiag.exe and see what it says about your Sound driver(s). If DxDiag report NO Problems with your sound drivers then it should all work properly, if DxDiag finds a problem, U will have to figure out what to do to rectify the problem(s).

To make sure that your Elektor SDR Shield is working correctly, U should download Christian Zeitnitz's really excellent soundcard Scope program from and use the scope program to see what sort of signals are being sent into your soundcard. To eiliminate any problems which may be caused by the G8JCFSDR, U can manually tune the SDR shield using a terminal emulator such as Putty or TeraTerm. The command to set the frequency in the SDR Shield is f nnnnn<CrLf> where nnnnn is the frequency in Hz, so for example to tune BBC R4 here in the UK on 198KHz, one types

f 198000<Enter>? //Make sure to set your Terminal Emulator to send CrLF for line endings

In the Scope program use the Frequency Tab to get a Spectrum Display.

Hopefully these tips will get U on your way, please let us know how it goes.
