Please don’t arrive much before 10am, as the 2 hour parking clock starts as soon as you arrive……..and getting exemption, whilst possible, never seems easy.

In about 1952 a second Club was formed in Maidstone by G6NU and Des Mullen G3ABF. They met at premises in Union Street. Not the YMCA there though. The trail then went cold in my research after about 1956, which was the last report of any Maidstone club activity in RSGB Bulletin, Wireless World or Short Wave Magazine. A Maidstone club was reformed in 1962 at the YMCA in Union Street Maidstone. As Graham correctly notes Robbie G3ERY was chairman. There was a Scots guy who was Treasurer I remember. The original Maidstone club of 1937 had the call G3WM. It was never re-issued after the war. I managed to get it reissued in 2005. When I left Kent Bill Walker in Tunbridge Wells held the licence. He first joined the Maidstone club as a schoolboy in 1951?

Other members were Jack (later) G4EMC, Dickie Bird G2BLU, Jack Warner G3ABZ and Dick G2BMP who later emigrated to VK. I can't remember his VK call off hand but I worked him several times and he visited the club in about 1985.?

A bit more information. Malcolm, Robbie Robertson's son told me that his father was General Secretary of the Maidstone YMCA for two years, I don't remember Malcolm saying when that was exactly, but it was sometime in the late 50's early 60's.? I don't know if Robbie was succeeded by Roy Holgate as General Secretary or someone else held the post before Roy took over. I know that Roy Holgate was quite young when he became General Secretary.?

I wouldn't hold your breath on getting a new building to replace the former Childrens house, developers are rather slow in meeting their Section 106 obligations.
