Ian,
?
Thank you for your contribution, albeit extremely negative. Whilst you might not necessarily wish to take part in this event, many other club members do, so that’s the end of that. I am disappointed to discover that the club PSU is no good – why has nobody ever been informed about this? The club has a lot of equipment that has been purchased over the years, yet it seems every time someone wants to use it, its either lost, stolen (what a joke??), no good or nobody can remember who last had it. I think its now time for members who have club equipment in their possession? to bring everything back to the hut; no club equipment should be stored at Capel, as it’s not the club premises, and the members can’t use what rightfully belongs to them because it’s locked-up 30 miles away!
?
This issue needs addressing urgently. I am therefore requesting that all members who have club equipment in their possession please bring it back to the hut so we can check the inventory and publish a club asset register. It is not right that club equipment is stashed-around in people’s houses when new members would like to be able to use it – then when they do, we’re told it’s no good anyway! We now have a lockable cupboard to store the equipment in, so I would be grateful if you could start by bringing back the 2mtr rig you have at home, as this will be needed for the Torch event.

I will not parcipitate in this event nor offer any assistance with this.

Members of the club will have to arrange for the aerial work to be finshed, The club power supply will need to be replaced or repaired before this.

The more important event before this is VHF field day on the 7th and 8th july, this should be our piroty not this "torch" event.

Nobody I have spoken to has expressed a interest in the Torch event and I feel it should have gone to Committiee before being made a Club event.

We should be putting our efforts into VHF Field Day and making a name for the Club. That is Less than 4 Weeks away and at the Moment seems very iffy that we will make a entry.

Gentlemen,
?
1: As you may be aware, the Olympic Torch passes through Maidstone on Thursday 19th July. As it goes around the UK, the WAB Group (Worked All Britain) are holding special event stations in the area through which it passes, and hope to cover as much of the route as possible.
?
2: Several members of the club have shown interest in participating in this, so I have registered our Club with the WAB group to take part on the day using the call sign G3WM. I have received official notification and the call log-book to confirm our registration. I have spoken to Leslee and booked the hut for the day, so no problems there!
?
3: Ideally, at least 6 members are required, bearing in mind the operators, loggers, rest periods etc. I already have 4 people who wish to take part, although one is subject to being able to get the day off work (no problem for those of us who are retired!). However, the more the better, but we only have 6 weeks to get prepared!
?
4: Remember, this event is not until Thursday 19th July, so you have plenty of time to sort-out your diary’s!
?
5: These are highly-prestigious stations; having listened (and made contact with) several stations, they are very busy indeed – usually lots of pile-ups - because people actually want to log a contact with the operating stations each day.
?
6: If you are interested, will you please let me know so I can ensure we will do our club proud on the day. Because the stations can get very busy, if we’re not prepared, it can cause problems in dealing with the amount of traffic generated; we will need to keep calm at all times and ensure we are in control rather than letting aggressive callers dictate the running. Consequently, I hope to use a few of our meetings as training evenings at the hut in order to ensure we are up-to-speed with our operation procedures.
?
7: We will need HF and VHF radios (2 mtrs), so its a good excuse to get our all our equipment back in the hut and ensure its all working OK.
?
8: Please do think about joining us on the day – most of us will never get this chance again, will we? It will be an invaluable experience for some of the newer members to experience.
?
9: Please let me know in the next week or so if you’re interested, as I need to know that we have enough members to host this interesting Special Event Station.
?
10: Unfortunately, I will not be at the club next Monday, but should be able to make the meeting after.
