Subject: RSGB DRM UPDATE

?
?
Dear club colleagues, some current news of matters discussed during an RSGB leadership team meeting this past weekend, plus RSGB membership and local rallies.

??
Youngsters on the air.?
Plans are at an early stage in the RSGB to organise a YOTA UK () event on the 19/20th of July, and ideas are being sought from young amateurs by Steve Hartley G0FUW the chairman of the Training and Education Committee.
?
If you have young members with ideas for this special YOTA weekend please ask them to send these to Steve at tec.chair@...

?
Abuse of new licensees.
I am sorry to relay that some full licensees in Kent have been reportedly heard abusing and?threatening those with Foundation and Intermediate callsigns. Though this appears centred around a small area, it has also been reportedly heard on a couple of the east coast repeaters.
?
As I have said during my club visits, the AROS volunteers under the RSGB are seeing an increasing volume of calls to deal with licence infringements and abuse. This appears a key role that amateurs, whether members of the Society or not expect the RSGB to undertake. If you want to volunteer to help the AROS team or to report matters then the contact address is aros@...

Further details on the role and approach of AROS can be found at

?
Training costs.
While not confirmed as relating to any training centre in Kent, there have been reports on the Tutors reflector of candidates being charged ?300 for the Foundation Morse assessment.
?
I am not aware of any clubs in Kent that conduct training charging more than an acceptable 'admin' charge on top of the actual costs of delivering the training, but should anyone know otherwise please let me know.

?
RSGB Membership.
Currently their is an offer of RSGB book vouchers for anyone signing up now, and if paying by direct debit the costs can be spread monthly, quarterly or yearly. Details can be found at ???
?
Remember that their are also Junior and Student membership categories for our young amateurs, details are on the RSGB website

?
Kent rallies.
Thank you to colleagues for organising the Rainham and Dover rallies this year, where both?had good weather and appeared well attended. Thank you especially to those who visited the RSGB stand and bought some of the books, and to those that came over to talk or seeking information.
?
Many of you will know that the West Kent ARS are holding a Radio & Electronics Fair on the 14th of September at the Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys, more details nearer the time.
