U.S. Source for ATX Walkabout

The ATX Walkabout may be available in the U.S.

Every once in a while a receive a complementary copy of Worldradio. I
received one a few weeks ago, and finally got around to looking
through it yesterday. In the back, in the New Products column, there
is a brief article that says that "Cutting Edge Enterprises is now
carrying Waters and Stanton mobile radio antennas designed specially
for the Yaesu FT-817." The "ATX All Band antenna" is specifically
discussed.

Cutting Edge Enterprises has a Web site at
. (Click on the "Products" link.)

I have no reason to believe that this is not a good company, but I
have NO experience with them, except for viewing their Web site.
Proceed at your own risk; no warranty is implied by me in providing
this information!

Hope this is a good tip. OTOH, based on the reports of satisfaction
with W&S maybe there is no reason to go elsewhere. I have not dealt
with W&S either, by the way.

Anyone have any experience with CEE to report on?

Those fine, quality-oriented folks at MFJ (cough cough) also were
carrying the ATX. Had plenty of 'em at Dayton, but they wanted ~$160
vs. others @ $99. Just in case someone is desperate. As a fatter of
mact, if you're *that* desperate, I'll sell mine! ;)

Yes, I bought the waist pack for the 817 from them and it made a trip
on Amtrak from Albuquerque to San Francisco and back. Very well made
and easy to carry all I needed for the rig, too. Also got a lead
calcium battery and the pouch has a pocket for that built in. Fast
service...good quality! Jo K5HOY

Anyone tried one of the Miracle Whips yet? At $99 they are obviously
cheaper in the US than an ATX.

Well, there are some advantages to living within 20 minutes
of AES Cleveland. Here's what I heard from them:

Two weeks ago:
They had ordered some from W&S to sell here, and were
waiting for that order to arrive.

Last week:
They told me that MFJ had worked an exclusive to sell them
in the U.S. They thought they might still get their order
from W&S but weren't sure.

Today:
They had the MFJ-packaged ATX with BNC connector hanging
on the wall. Not sure if they'll get the PL-259 or
3/8"-24tpi models.

My personal guess is that you'll see MFJ hyping them in QST,
CQ, etc., by September, maybe earlier if they can turn the
advertising around that fast.

I'm also guessing you'll pay a bit more than UK (pound symbol)
69.99 minus VAT plus shipping. [Mine came to less than $110
(USD) when I ordered direct from www.wsplc.com and it showed
up in less than a week.]

Yes, I go to AES way too often. Imagine if I had bought
the house I looked at which was 3 BLOCKS away!

MFJ had them at Dayton and they were
priced at $159.95. They also had an
advertisement already for the "Walkabout"
and the single band antennas. The MFJ
"Walkabout" model number in MFJ-1899T
for the BNC model there wasn't a PL259
unit offered. The single band antennas
are for 6m to 80m and the price is $29.95
for the 6m, $39.95 for the 10m to 30m
antennas and the 40 and 80m units are $49.95.
These prices came for the brochure
I picked up at the MFJ booth, it was the one
with the map on one cover and the Atomic
clock on the other cover. Just a two page
flier, you had to look inside.
