Counterpoise

Mind the postings on the counterpoise. I'm not overly
keen on the supplied counterpoise with the MP-1.

What works better for you? Jo
Make a tuned counterpoise from something like lamp cord (rip in half)
and connect one end to the ant. base. Keep it off of the
ground/earth at least several feet. A simple tuning procedure is to
adjust the counterpoise to about 1/4 wavelength and the tune the coil
for minimum SWR (resonance). Then adjust the length of the
counterpoise for minimum SWR. Repeat once. This will give you a
radiating signal. The supplied radials are OK on 12 and 10 meters,
but not good for the lower bands. Yes, you can move them about to
get a low SWR, but you are not radiating very well. Remember that a
dummy load has a low SWR and doesn't radiate. Also, don't adjust
(make measurements of) the coil or counterpoise while near them.

Thanks for the message which I just read.
Spent the better part of yesterday afternoon trying to tune the MP-1
on the sundeck(very low humidity, low temp)with no success.
It works well at the beach, on the tripod. But this was with the C
clamp on a wooden porch rail. Will try your suggestion.
