Tonight, my FT-817 died...
RX on all bands is OK. All used antennas were ok. Now, suddenly, there is only between 0.5 and 1 Watt coming out of it, only on VHF and UHF. All other freqs: no show.
What could be the problem? I've tried the resets POWER+F+V/M, POWER+HOME, POWER+F, POWER+V/M.
I've looked into the alignment menu to see if there were any ratings at '0', but it looks quite normal, compared to what I've seen in some postings here (I never went into the alignment menu myself).
I did not do any modification on the rig.
Appreciate any help,

Rene,
I had a similar problem when the internal rechareable battery voltage dropped too low. Extenal 12 V was OK. Recharged the internal battery and the power was OK...

Rene, If you have an internal batery pack installed, try disconnecting it from the 817 and run with the 13.8 V DC supply only. If all is well, you may have a battery problem. Maybe overly discharged. GL es 72 de Barry - W4WB --- In FT817@y..., pd1ald@p... wrote: Tonight, my FT-817 died...

Even without the battery pack, the power remains low. On HF, no power comes out (according to the FT-817's power bars: 0 bars!). On the other hand, my power supply shows about 1 A current. Rene PD1ALD --- In FT817@y..., w4wb@a... wrote: Rene,

I checked it with 2 SWR/Power meters. On 20 metres, it gives 500 milliwatt (full power selected on FT-817). External 13,8V power supply, no batteries inside. Hi Rene, This may be a dumb question, but are you sure you have TX power output selected for 5 W (Operating Function Row 10, A Key)? With the 13.8 V supply, you should have no icon for the TX power out showing. 72 de Barry - W4WB

Yes. I've been using it for about 3 months right now. Best DX (SSB, 5 Watts): Holland - Massachusetts. Rene PD1ALD --- In FT817@y..., w4wb@a... wrote: --- In FT817@y..., pd1ald@p... wrote:

You mentioned the CURRENT, at one ampere--What is the VOLTAGE during transmit???

Same thing happened to me about a month ago. But I didn't have any power on uhf/vhf either. I sent it into yaesu service, and about 3 long weeks later, it came back. On the repair ticket, it said that they replaced a FET and a resistor. I am assuming that this would be the power FET. However, now it works. I did have to correct the power supply voltage reading, because it displayed the voltage as being exactly 1 volt higher. Weird. I'm not sure what caused this all. The only thing that could have failed in my case would have been my zm2 tuner, as I discovered an intermittent contact later on. But still, the output should have rolled off in that case, causing no damage. I don't know. I am just really careful now. Good Luck! KB8IIO --- In FT817@y..., pd1ald@p... wrote: Yes. My dealer in the Netherlands (Schaart Communications - ) replaced my FT-817 - no questions asked! So I am back on the air, but very careful!
