I think it was an attempt at humor. I would try exercising all the switches/buttons multiple times. Often one will get stuck on. That might save taking it apart, ie. opening the front. Good luck. 73,

Might be stuck button.? Normally in these rigs the buttons are in a matrix configuration and scanned by the CPU.? If one button is frozen pushed it can lock out the other buttons. One solution also

I bought the original MW some years ago for my FT817. I thought it works very well for receiving on the HF bands. Never used it for? VHF / UHF or much transmitting.
