I have 2 ft817's from around 20yrs ago. One is NIB and the other one does 100% duty as a band hopping WSPR station running a half a watt currently. The NIB one was used to get past it's infant mortality and put back in the box. The WSPR rig has been all around the world and never had a lick of trouble with it.... It has been on way more than it has been off in the past 20yrs!? Original finals to boot but never ran it on internal batteries... I went to buy an 818 when I heard the news but R&L was out of stock when they had stock 2 days ago...? :-(

Triple
check your jumpers with the latest diagrams on the web. There
have been a few changes over the years. If you have a
preconfigured chip, make sure it is in the correct way...?
Pulling hair is not a working option.

Wonder
of some of you guru's could help me out. I am about ready to
pull out what hair I have left !! I have the jumpers set in
the SignaLink and I am not getting decodes on PSK or FT8. I
resorted back to my old Buxxcom Interface and I am doing
fine with FTB but not PSK.
Any help would be appreciated !!

I just thought this may be worth posting.

My 817 is over 10 years old. I have made many contacts with it to Europe and South and Central America.

I haven’t used the radio in quite some time, since I purchased a FT-450D. Yesterday, I decided to clean it up and turn it on. ?Everything works as it should. I didn’t expect to do any transmitting or any DX listening, as I only hooked up a miracle whip antenna. When I off work next week, I’ll hook up my MP-1 Super Antenna. This combination allowed me work a lot of DX. During the “wok all Europe” contest years ago, other operators couldn’t believe I was running 5 watts QRP.
?
I still love this radio. Hope to get out in the field with it this spring.
I have one too. Took a while to find one, and recently I have send two boards to two fellows here which have located the new collins filters from AOR. It's all set to keep it going strong for a while.

I will never part ways with my 817. I have a cw filter I got way back when there was a guy selling them in Alabama.

Now that inrad seems to be out of stock of pcbs things are slightly more complicated, but there seems to be at least one OM who still can provide of those.
On the other hand, AOR still has stock of 500hz CW mechanical filters, it's the same collings, just that it doesn't have the yaesu sticker on top. Call your local AOR distributor and ask for them, you might have a pleasant surprise if you're looking for one.

Come on Yaesu, two small tweaks, CW filters and a bit ore space for homebrew battery packs and you can be king of the castle ;-)
