Re: RTTY and the FT-817
If you don't have have a keyboard to rip apart you could probably buy a keyboard or mouse extender cable. I wish I had thought of that - I don't like soldering those small plugs either. Julian,

Re: SGC's SG-239 tuner or LDG's Z-11. both work great! read on
A ZM-2 would be easier still. I'm surprised you're considering the SG- 239 as of all the SGC autotuners it seems the least suitable for portable use, being basically a PCB with some screening, not to

Re: SWR & Finals protection(Miracle Whip)
It does reduce power to about half power when run on the 5W setting (according to my tests) but presumably Yaesu believe that the finals can handle transmitting 2.5W into anything. I didn't observe

Re: RTTY and the FT-817
Besides, I I I cheated. I just found an old PS-2 style keyboard that had several malfuntioning keys and took it apart and ripped out the cable. So now I've got a very nice molded mini-DIN

Re: U.S. Source for ATX Walkabout
MFJ had them at Dayton and they were priced at $159.95. They also had an advertisement already for the "Walkabout" and the single band antennas. The MFJ "Walkabout" model number in MFJ-1899T for the

6 Meters, WOW!
This week-end, I re-discovered 6 meters, courtesy of the FT817. I was participating in the IARU HF Contest and conditions weren't great on 10 or 15 meters, so, on a whim, I listened on 6 meters with

Brian, What I do, is use the Z-11 with a random/long wire. You can either solder the center conductor only or use a balun (LDG sells one). I like this solution as the Z-11 is the same form factor

Can you write to me offline and explain the hookup. I have the balun but some HAM friend of mine says it will not really work correctly with the Z-11 It is the LDG balun they sell for that

Re: external power jack
What doesn't work? Is it possible you blew a fuse on your power supply or on the leads? Can you assure yourself that your power connector actually is still supplying 13.8? Just a thought.

external power jack
OOOOps. Well I went and did it. I accidentally shorted +12VDC to the heatsink and now it doesn't work. The internal NiCad battery pack still powers up the rig just fine but I cannot charge it
