Re: Anyone Besides Yaesu Replace Finals?
Just a suggestion, but I wonder if you explain tthe situation about the rig sitting in the box for a year, maybe they will honor the warranty even though the rig is out of warranty. I've heard of it

Re: Anyone Besides Yaesu Replace Finals?
Sadly, because stoopid here hasn't used the rig since I got it last year. The darn thing sat in a box. I should know better: my philosophy is 'use and abuse' something while it is under warranty - if

Re: Anyone Besides Yaesu Replace Finals?
That $300+ repair really sucks, considering many of us got the radio brand new at Dayton for $499.99. PERRY wrote:

Re: Anyone Besides Yaesu Replace Finals?
If you only got one QSO from the rig and you know it to be unmodified, I assume it is new. Why would'nt they repair it under warranty? Chuck KG8ZH _____________________________________________

Thanks, Mike! The e-mail I got from Yaesu was steering me away from doing it myself. I will check out that file. Thanks for your help! 72! Pete, AA8GK iron, the "Technicalities either out repairs.

Re: Anyone Besides Yaesu Replace Finals?
Replacing FT817 finals is pretty easy - screwdriver, soldering-iron, multimeter. In the FILES section, have a look in the "Technicalities and Repairs" and "Repairs" folders for detailed instructions.

Re: Anyone Besides Yaesu Replace Finals?
There are a few things to test before and after replacing the finals. This testing should be done to determine if the finals, or an earlier stage, are at fault, and to ascertain the correct bias and

Re: Anyone Besides Yaesu Replace Finals?
Well, I am really sorry for you. The prices Yaesu charges for the replacement boards are disgusting. That brings another question, to anyone who ever had the finals go. Does the PWB (or other

Anyone Besides Yaesu Replace Finals?
Well, for as much as I spent on the 817, I got only ONE CW QSO out of it! I'm mad as a hornet. And, no, I've made NO mods or otherwise abused the rig. So, I e-mailed Yaesu asking for a quote on

Come to think of it--maybe I did not get the wall wart with it. I think I already had on for my old FT50RD HT, and have two for a VX5R (a buddy ran over this VX5R smashing it so he gave me his

Re: One Last Question
This may have changed - when I got mine about a year ago, it came with a wall wart IIRC. The purpose of the wall wart was *only* charging. It is not recommended for powering the radio. -JohnT (KB5HWS)

Re: 60 metres band on 817? whats this about?
Both the UK and the US have 5 spot frequencies at 5MHz allocated to the amateur service (UK for experimentation only). One frequency, 5403.5kHz is common to both countries. Hence the interest in 5MHz.
