Re: My FT-817 died :-(

Same thing happened to me about a month ago. But I didn't have any
power on uhf/vhf either. I sent it into yaesu service, and about 3
long weeks later, it came back. On the repair ticket, it said that
they replaced a FET and a resistor. I am assuming that this would be
the power FET.

However, now it works. I did have to correct the power supply voltage
reading, because it displayed the voltage as being exactly 1 volt
higher. Weird.

I'm not sure what caused this all. The only thing that could have
failed in my case would have been my zm2 tuner, as I discovered an
intermittent contact later on. But still, the output should have
rolled off in that case, causing no damage. I don't know. I am just
really careful now.

Good Luck!

Hi Rene,

This may be a dumb question, but are you sure you have TX power
output selected for 5 W (Operating Function Row 10, A Key)? With
the
13.8 V supply, you should have no icon for the TX power out
showing.

Hi,
thats me again...

The solution is VERY easy... The BNC plus is an
RCA/BNC adaptor just pressed
in.

Could easily removed and replaced by a new one (or a
UHF plug for example).

Just pull the BNC plug out of the antenna using a
BNC jack or just some
pliers.

You will see a standard adaptor coming out.
Take care, there could be a small white plastic
washer, not loose it.
Replace the dead adaptor by a new one, thats it!

If you dont have such an adaptor and cannot buy it
round the corner, we will
send you one as a letter.

OK?
Sorry for the trouble...

Field Days HFpack Invitation (special schedule)

HFpack Special Schedule 22~24 JUNE 2001

HFpack invites FT-817 operators to join in the fun surrounding Field
Day with a special emphasis on QSOs with walking portable, pedestrian,
bicycle, low power mobile, and backpack portable stations. HFpack's
special operating schedule will be in effect 22~24 JUNE 2001.
Time: 30 minutes past each hour
Frequencies:
18157kHz USB (CW 18158) +/-5kHz
24977kHz USB (CW 24978) +/-5kHz
10137kHz CW or PSK31

Background:
Field Day is a great tradition that brings ham radio operators
together. Hams venture outdoors to set up portable stations. A high
degree of activity among single-operator battery powered lightweight
HF portable is expected this year, due to the recent popularity of the
FT-817 and other low power backpack transceivers. Some will be solo...
many of us will be out setting up for Field Day and participating in
larger club efforts for the event. HFpack recognizes the desire to
contact operators who are using similar gear and experience some of
the fun with them on the air. The HFpack special operating schedule
serves as a meeting place for those who want to share a QSO away from
the contest crowd or relax during a break in the action.

Message Board at Mountain-Ops Communications

Greetings to all.
Just a note to let everybody know that we have added a message board.
to .
We would like to see it used for friendly contact between portable and
QRP HF enthusiasts. As well as to promote other groups of the same
content.

Also please note the new TacPack(tm) cases for the FT-100, IC-706,
SG-2020 and the Elecraft K2.

Also a new battery for us: 12V 2.5Ah SLA battery
My husband and I will be working off 3 of these on field day weekend
as our only source of power. On a SG-2020 and and 2 FT-817's.
Will also have a interesting antenna to try.
Will be taking pictures and will share them with the group.

Banging heads

I don't believe that I have been on 20 meter SSB banging heads with the big
guns in the pile ups. No dinky antenna, a 2 element quad at 65 feet but 2.5
watts on 8 AA batteries against a whole bunch of kilowatts. I don't win them
all but I win some after a few tries. What a blast!!!

ebloke@... wrote:

Gents and Ladies...

I'd like to respond to this particular chain of messages...

The Miracle Whip performs as we describe. I invite you to read in
detail on our website at www.miracleantenna.com - in particular the
FAQs - for more information.

Yes, the Miracle Whip is a 50-inch whip and will definitely NOT
outperform or even match the performance of a much bigger antenna -
but then a much bigger antenna is much less convenient for traveling
and operating under casual conditions. We've not as yet seen another
antenna offered for the 817 that incorporates HF, VHF and UHF in a
single, rig-mounted unit with tuner incorporated.

The Miracle Whip is designed for the operator who would like to be
able to operate conveniently, without having to suffer the weight and
set-up time of a larger antenna and tuner, and would like VHF-UHF
included in the package.

We have worked DX under good conditions repeatedly with a Miracle Whip
and the 817 on 20, 17, 15, and 10 meters on SSB, CW and FM.

In short - if you'd like something to take the rig into the living
room, out to the patio, camping for the weekend, over to a friends
place for the afternoon, traveling on business, etc, the Miracle Whip
is a convenient, highly transportable system for getting the most
portablility out of your rig with the minimum of fuss.

If you're more concerned with performance, and less with weight, size,
set-up and convenience, a larger antenna would be a better choice.

If you want a single antenna that allows you to operate HF and
VHF-UHF, and get very good performance CONSIDERING ITS SIZE AND
CONVENIENCE, we believe you would enjoy using a Miracle Whip.

Thank you for allowing this comment.
