Re: Ft-818
Where to get an HSU277??
I have never had good luck contacting Yaesu support. ?I was calling during COVID, so that might have been the issue. They might have some. ?
The HSU277 is very tiny, and I suspect that most people without SMD equipment and experience need two or three to finally do it correctly. In the case of D3003, the PA board needs to be removed to get at it, so the service person can position it under a magnifier. The advantage of a component replacement is that no alignment of a new board should be needed (with very careful handling). Good practice indicates a realignment when an RF board with tunable components is removed and replaced.?
There are a few suppliers that are reputable, like LittleDiode, that want about 12 Euro each for individual items. There might be reasonably equivalent PIN diodes that aren't SMD, or a different SMD form factor with similar specs, that could be retrofitted. ?It's VHF, so the signal path needs to be short. I haven't looked into it. I have a couple 30-year-old VHF amps that use standard PIN diodes, so they're around.? I have ordered a package of HSU277s from AliExpress for about $10, hoping that they are real--or real enough. EBay has some "refurbished" items for about $10 each. I think "refurbished" means scavenged from boards. I have not had good luck in general with parts from these sources. There are lots of counterfeits that will test OK and operate well enough if they are not pushed very hard. In this case, you're putting 5 watts through the part, so you're at the edge of its capability.? ?

Re: Solar Generator for portable power
I have used a Jackery to power my FT-817 and it worked fine and no RFI.? Last Field Day it was too hot to spend an extended time outside so I ran Class 1E and ran a 100 watt transceiver at reduced power directly from a Bioenno battery.? After the battery ran down I plugged my AC supply into a Jackery and powered the rig from that and had no RFI.? To stay totally emergency power I ran a light on another, smaller Jackery.? Again, no RFI.
?
On the Waters and Stanton YouTube channel, Peter, G3OJV, has posted a few videos using a Jackery to power a QRP rig.
?
Of course, not sure if every brand of "generator" will be RFI free or not.

The service manual ("Technical Supplement") is in the Files section of this group at /g/ft817/files/FT-817_817ND_FT-818ND_TS_USA_EXP_EU_E137790J.pdf
There's a gold mine of information there. 73, Jeff kn8a |
Solar Generator for portable power
Has anyone used one of the small, so called, "solar generator" batteries to power the FT-81X series radio in portable operation?? I'm looking at a HOWEASY 120 watt unit.? It is basically a 88 watt-hour (7.3 amp hour) lithium-ion battery in a case measuring 6.6" x 3" x 4" and weighing 2.3 pounds.? It can be recharged from 110 AC power, 12 volt cigarette lighter automobile socket, or solar panel.? It has two 120 watt 110 AC outlets, two 10 amp 12 volt DC outlets, and four USB outlets along with a built in LED light.? $ 69.99 on Amazon.? ?If anyone has experience I would love to get your thoughts.? I'm wondering if the internal circuitry (inverter, battery management system, solar controller, etc.) cause RFI. |

Re: Recent final board price / availability?
I contacted the company CSY & Son, responsible for Yaesu spare parts in Italy. Currently, only the PA board CB1152005 is available, which is compatible with all 817-818 models.
They told me that the one I purchased is the last one they have, but they expect more to arrive from Japan.
They could not tell me how long the parts for these radios will be available, but for now, there are no issues. It is possible that the situation may change in the near future.
A sore point is the price. The PA board costs 146.40 Euros in Italy. |

Re: Ft-818
With those symptoms, ?are likely to have an open D3003. It's possible it could be a relay connection or bad solder joint to a coil in the same place. But, D3003 is the usual issue. ?One test is to check the current draw on 2M. ?If you're still drawing the same current on 2M FM as 70 cm, the signal is getting to the final transistors, but not getting out of the radio.
?
D3003 is on the back of the PA board, and is very tiny. ?It is a common problem. ?Here are some relevant diagrams. You can find the service manual online many places.

Re: Ft-818
Hi This is my post when i found the problem i was having,
Hi i found this when my FT817 did not output power on 2m and it was the Diode that had gone bad, Good Luck, Dave 2E0DMB so on Pin 8 of Q3003 on the PA Unit is a voltage called V-TX that switches the output of the PA FINAL thru to the 2 Meter Low Pass Filter. There it passes thru the Relay RL3001 which for 2Meter is closed from the moving contact to the Normally Closed (Black) contact which passes the TX energy on to the Diode D3003 an HSU277 ( Pin Diode ) and from there on to the ?front or rear Antenna select RL3015. Other than that, there is another Diode D3005, that enjoys going bad and it can also cause the problem you are having. These are both on the bottom (B side) of the PCB. ?This diode turns on to protect the RX when TXing. ?This is turned on from pin 4 on the Q3003. |

Hi if you look up posts from me 2E0DMB you will find the info, I had this problem with a ft817nd and it was a diode? Re: Recent final board price / availability?
开云体育As I understand it, the parts they are offering today are FT-818 finals, and they work in FT-817/817nd.This part will be offered by Yaesu as long as they provide support for the FT-818, so likely a few more years (the FT-817 non-nd was supported what, 20+ years? I don't expect Yaesu will support the FT-818 until 2038, but I don't think it will end anytime soon. There are YouTube videos showing the replacement of a finals board, I don't think it's overly complex, but I'd be reluctant to rely on intermediate kit-building skills to replace the board, but if you have the part in-hand and have a copy of the replacement instructions, I'm pretty certain any competent repair shop could do the swap. These are assumptions - they seem reasonable, but if you have an actual concern about part availability, I'd suggest reaching out to Yaesu for official answers. 开云体育So after the newest information on the finals board, thank you! My 817 is a non ND. Will the replacement board work on a non ND? Has anyone actually replaced the finals board? If so, can it be done at home with only a moderate skill level? If the answer is yes, then maybe having one as a spare is a good idea…before they run out and stop production of spare parts. Re: Recent final board price / availability?
Hi Ken.? Not sure if you were asking me this question, but I ordered the final boards by phone from Yaesu in the US.? I called the Contact Us/Parts number on their website.
?
I don't remember if I specified the FT-817, 818, or both.? From what I have read on this group, one board fits all, so I don't think it matters.? It says FT-817 Final Unit on the invoice.? I verified the part number they have is the same as what I read somewhere on this group.? I have a tracking number that indicates the shipment is in transit.
?
The cost was $26.17 US per board, plus shipping.

Re: Recent final board price / availability?
Yeasu releases new Owner's manuals as the externals and user interface change. There've been maybe 5 or more released for the FTdx10 so far. Makes sense as more of the product becomes software defined.
In the FT-8x7 series, it was the service manuals that got released more often. Also, they've started to release what I think of as a "summary" release which includes every part, layout, and schematic change over the total production run of all models. Last year, F1RVC posted the 817/818 release of the manual in this group at /g/ft817/files/FT-817_817ND_FT-818ND_TS_USA_EXP_EU_E137790J.pdf Yaesu cal them Technical Supplements. You'll see that there were 4 different versions of the PA board. They're listed by lot number, not version. (the 817x and 818 versions are so close, they had continuous lot numbers) Anyway, this is the manual to look at, as it succeeds ALL of the hardware changes over both production runs. Lord knows about firmware changes, though. those remain totally opaque. Hope this helps, Jeff kn8a |
Re: Recent final board price / availability?
开云体育Mike ordered and was shipped a finals board from Yaesu US recently, as noted here -?/g/ft817/message/115294 Please, describe exactly what you asked for and who you asked for, for example: I called <Yaesu US or Europe> and asked for <FT-817 or FT-818> finals board and I was told ______ I think asking for FT-817 finals gets the 'unavailable' response, asking for the FT-818 finals gets you a replacement finals board that can replace the FT-817 finals. YES, Yaesu should offer the FT-818 part when you request the FT-817 part, but that may not be happening, based on some anecdotal stories here.
