I posted this question a while back but no answer yet. ?IMHO the ?best bet is to just buy the final transistors in case we become a member of the club.

Anyone know the part number of the FETs on the 817s PA board???

Re: Ft-817 bad finals update

If we "all" order 2, 3, 4, or 5 I think Yaesu would have to run tens of thousands of boards... (there are over 9,000 list members, and over a quarter-million FT-817/817ND/818 were sold)

Scott,

Just call Yaesu and order the boards. I am getting 3. I am keeping my original 817 for a long time so I am stocking up. Get as many boards that you feel comfortable with. Replacing the board is not that difficult.

Hi Scott,
? ?There are independent people in the business of repairing ham equipment. A while back one of them advertised $75 plus parts to repair most rigs. Probably more now. I'm sure the better ones have good reviews.
? ?I commented earlier about buying the transistors for a home repair without realizing that they're surface mount. I'm very experienced generally but never worked with SMT. It might put me off from a home repair even for myself now that I've learned about the component type.
? ?It's still a good receiver on it's own though. Useful for spotting and for SWL. What I don't know is if there's a separate finals section for the high bands or not. I'm sure others here have that information.

Re: Ft-817 bad finals update

When I replaced my 3rd FT817(non-ND) like 5 years ago it was the newer one Yaesu was shipping with the FT817 when it was still in production.? So yes the newer PAs will work with any FT817, ND or not.

Not sure about the FT818 for it had 6W output, but bet it is very similar or identical.? Probably to get that extra 1W just required more drive.

But shame the PA board is no longer available from Yaesu, but I have found them to be that way.? Had FT8100 nice dual band 2m/440 rig that lost power output.? At the time was less than 5 years old.? Sent to Yaesu repair and they sent back stating they no longer service them.? They did not charge return shipping, I guess something.? I found the power control voltage to the PA module was bad.? I jumpered 12 volts to the pin and for last 20 years rig is putting out 50W no matter what the rig display says, hi.

Most of these repair facilities only want to work on gear their techs are familiar with.? As with repair of anything the tech has seen the problem many times before so knows quickly what to do and how to do it.? Time is money.

Now we need someone who can take existing FT817 or FT818 PA boards and learn how to repair them.? As you suggested replacing the FETs is probably all that is needed for most.? Just need the FET part number.

First off a bit of Yaesu clarification?
?
The board that holds the output transistors is called the Final Unit and is number FR006000. Which mounts on top of the PA board, FR005190
?
According to Yaesu part lady, NO Final units are in stock. NONE are planned to be ordered.
?
According to the Yaesu service guy, Yaesu WILL NOT service the original FT-817. They will service the FT-871-ND and the FT-818.
?
Ah! You say! Don't they use the same final board? I asked that, too.?

I think Jeff has had his FT817 working, just started giving low power indications.

I also think he said he had tested on dummy load and meter.? If not that would be the better test.

Hi Jeff,

?

You have to remember that there are over a quarter of a million of the units out there so there are bound to be some failures.

Remember, also, that the early units with the bipolar transistors were more prone to taking off under low battery conditions and blowing up the finals due to there being no load on them

Some third parties still sell the boards... at their prince, which isn't as cheap as they used to be. Also if you're sure that it's just a transistors fault the same mitsubishi that came with my 817ND can be bought relatively cheap from major retailers. IIRC it was 7 euros each about a year ago. Original 817 uses an older model, and a different board which I don't know how easy to find it is.

Anyway isn't an easy soldering job.

Good morning to the Group,

Dean, the part number CB1333004 is correct, I purchased my spare finials from yaesu USA with Beatriz Velarde as my contact in August of 2019 and she confirmed that this final works with all models of the 817 including the original and of course the 818nd that had been released the year before replacing the 817nd after a 14 year run on that model. When I bought my 818nd in January 2023, it came with a 3 year warranty, so they have to keep spare parts available at least until 2026. Vy 73
