Re: Any reviews?

I find it suspicious that there are no pictures of a completed kit.

Don't be surprised if you find yourself in real life with an unrelated collection of parts and zero chance of function.

But it's only 20 bucks with shipping.?

Re: Chinese FT-817 TCXO?

Hi Ronan,

Thanks for your input and excellent suggestions, sounds like you are a member of a great club, I will see what the local clubs offer. I know that the ARRL has a frequency test night once a year, so that's an option also.

So my question is how are you checking the frequency deviation of the Chinese tcxo-9s other than using another rig as a baseline.
Fortunately, my local radio club (CPSARC) run a "radio check" night where you can bring along your radios and have them tested for frequency accuracy, output purity and Rx sensitivity. They use some VERY nice and, more importantly, calibrated test equipment.?

Check if your local club do the same.

Oh, one of these. One important thing to keep in mind about them is that
they use transistors designed for use in switching-mode power supplies
rather than "true" RF ones (hardly surprising given the price tag!), so
while overall this kit performs decently enough do not expect wonders as
you move up in the frequency. And as Dave has already remarked, you WILL
need good low-pass filtering on the output.

You will have to add low pass filters for the band's you are going to use,

Re: Chinese FT-817 TCXO?

Thanks Chris,
That sounds like an excellent way to determine the deviation, I'm actually in the process of getting my raspberry Pi hooked up for wspr so once done, will pick one of the Chinese tcxo-9s and see what happens, perhaps I will get a good one also.

Re: Chinese FT-817 TCXO?

I am checking by transmitting WSPR beacons and see how it compares
with what signal it should be based on the audio frequencies that are
modulated in the passband. It was on average only 1Hz off from the
expected frequency. Many of these receivers have GPS disciplined
clocks that synthesize the waveforms used in the mixers and DSP
demodulators. Therefore it is easy to know with a great degree of
precision what frequency you are transmitting added to the audio
"carrier" of the modulated message.

Hi Chris and greetings to the group,

I've owned a ft817 early manufacture (2001)since purchase new and have been wanting to have the tcxo -9 but like many out there, can't quite handle the price....$160 plus shipping in Canada!

So my question is how are you checking the frequency deviation of the Chinese tcxo-9s other than using another rig as a baseline. My ft1000mp mkv field is from 2004 so it has drifted a tiny bit so using it isn't an option.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be very?much appreciated.

Re: Chinese FT-817 TCXO?

Ronan,
After Having The China TCXO's? in my two FT-817's? The Needed patience to get? it few Hertz of spec is NOT With Me at this time. Since Recently I picked Up a Third FT-817 that has the "Factory" LO I will be shopping for a TCXO and will look at Amazon Firstly And Then on AliExpress.
On The Other Hand The Need For " Inexpensive"? NARROW CW Filters Exists And Is Needed to Keep the FT-817-818 Viable in present time. It is my understanding that a few China Hams are working on using existing what they call "Filter Blocks" that are easily obtained to produce a kit for at least a 500 version, some thing in the $70-80 region.
I Do Hope that they are Successful. ?
?Best Regards.

Re: Chinese FT-817 TCXO?

I am the original owner, and I purchased a 500Hz for it many moons
ago. I take it they don't make them anymore? If not, that is too
bad.

Re: Chinese FT-817 TCXO?

Ok, Chinese (Purchased on Amazon a few days ago) seems to work FB. It
is very clean. I only found a couple of very minor birdies (only one
on 7.254Mhz that could possibly interfere with a very weak LSB station
on 40m in perfectly quiet CONDX). I also noticed that the OEM LO had
some birdies of its own too. I would imagine that they all produce
some very minor spurious signals -- even the OEM TCXO. However, I
think there are some out there that spray trash all over the band.
This is not one of them.
