The 818 was not so much an upgrade as it is replacement for a model that replacement parts are or will not be available for in the near future.? Manufacturers are not "know it alls" as the uninformed

Apart from the inexplicable woeful 70cms image rejection and power socket battery drain issues, I can't see why the FT818nd is inferior to the venerable 817 Mike? I totally agree about the 6 watts

Pretty much I agree. The 818 was a huge nothing-burger. The TCXO-9 isn¡¯t necessary unless you¡¯re using micro-wave transverters. The 6-watt level is a 20% increase in battery drain for about a 1 dB

The 818 is a waste of money.Besides the txco It has a slightly bigger battery capacity & 6 watts output instead of 5.Forget It.
