But you are right... it's going to be mostly a CW rig with the SSB/FM option good for V/UHF. That's why I ordered the CW filter. Wish there was a crystal filter available because the shape factor of crystal filters is better than the Collins mechanical filters. IRC knew that and now offers crystal filters as well as Collins filters for some Yaesu rigs. According to what I read, the microphone button DOES act as a CW paddle, just like the IC-706 does! Cool - too bad that was left off the FT-100. 73! =paul= W8KC Collector of Ten*Tecs and other fine plastics. Visit the Virtual Ten*Tec Museum at: <> |
Re: attachments/pictures
Respectfully submitted, yes, you should remove the ability. Not because we don't enjoy the pictures - I have no problems with a .jpg or .bmp file being sent. However, the abilty to propogate an attachment provides the hacker a means to send malevolent files, such as .vbs scripts or .exe files that can spread virii. Yes, I have a virus scanner that is kept as current as possible - but that's only as good as the last threat. If the server can allow .jpg files ONLY that would be a good compromise between sending pics and protecting the unsuspecting recipient. Ed, N5EM |
Smaller mic?
I'm relatively new to this group, so this question may have already
been address...but isn't it strange that the microphone is almost the size of the rig? I don't see an option for a smaller one or "in-the-ear" type mic. Not a concern to me as I will be mostly cw but it struck me as odd/funny. :) A better option would have been a built -in mic like my Tokyo HyPower for those occasions when 10 is open, etc. Also, a pair of "up/down" buttons on the rig that could be used as paddle in a pinch. The 706 mic has this option, but as small as the 817 is, sure would be nice to have in on the rig. my 2 cents 70 trees, Dennis WR4i Ivy,VA |

The mechanical filters has a better frq response and much steper
skirts that the ceramic and crystal filters. My first HF rig, a Collins KWM-2A (and no, I am not that old) had mech. IF filters and ceramic and crystal filter just don't compare. The sad thing is you have to choose with the 817. There is only room for one. I plan to get the CW filter, mainly due to the fact that the 817 does not have DSP filtering. Otherwise I would get the SSB filter and use the DSP to narrow things down. Thats what I do with my FT-100. It will proberly come in 817 Mk. II. "Yaesu DE OZ1GIY QSL?" Re: Packet connector and other accessories
Yes Bil = 1amp per/hr.
I think a main view of attaching an amp is so the rig will suit all uers, portable and neat for the qrper,s and for those who need it extra power seperate from the portable and neat unit with an external source. Ideal to bolt a linear in-car than an expensive rig, just put rig in pocket on leaving vehicle. Plus if your final stages of amp go up creek you dont have to return your prescious rig to works if under warantee. No hot radio like FT100/IC706 etc. John. --- In FT817@..., "Glyph" <bbp@a...> wrote: Is my math correct -- the 1000 MaH battery = 1 amp hour??external final amps to bump the power up? |

Living way out in the field has its disadvantages; long phone lines that =
long down load times. Posting on the web page make more sense to me; as in viewing a collection of JPG's. I always thought attachments were poor etiquette and were great ways to get a virus! But then hey what do i know living in the woods. HI 72 de K0YO mike |

My 8 foot antennas are from my JRC JST10 lunchbox hf transceiver which I purchassed in Japan 15 years ago . they even have a tuned counterpoise , are telescopic and made of stainless .
Although they are convenient for the 817 I find it awkward and nerdy to walk around with . 73's Howard VE2AED _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at .
