Without any additional information we can only guess. It would be good if you could open the radio and see where the wire from the connector goes.?

The most likely explanation is to send an IF signal out to an SDR dongle (like an RTL-SDR or SDRPlay) to give you a band-scope for the radio, but that's only a guess.

Hi to all!

I have a great FT817ND... bought used, replaced the internal battery and all run well. I replaced the "light" power connector with a coupler that provide two Anderson connector from Windcamp.

I noticed about a small SMA connector on rear... I don't know why it is here... Some friends told me that it can be a wide-spectrum signal from IF (???). Someone know something?

Re: Strane SMA on REAR.

I mounted a small SMA on the rear of my FT817ND. It is used as the output of the IF (68,33 MHz) to watch as a spectrum display on an SDR module. I use the FUNCube dongle, as recommended. See photo. W1GHZ described the circuit:

Tomorrow I'll have to open to see what they did to this great radio!
Today I have played with the 817 and SVXLINK and RIGCTL... My voice mail run well... It could be interesting configure the SVXLINK like an audio streamer like Echolink.

Re: Antenna port

The BNC is too light for my huge hands... I prefer use the SO-239 on the rear. To avoid dangerous situations put a 50 Ohm or 75 Ohm impedance on the BNC.

All of the menu settings were correct. I took the filter out of the radio where everything seems to work OK and put that filter into the ¡°problem¡± radio. It did not work. My assumption is that the radio has an issue so I mailed it back to Yaesu today for an evaluation. I sent them the filter as well. Thanks to all for the advise. Very helpful. 73 to all.?

Can any of you give me a suggestion on what might be going on with one of my FT-818nd radio. I have two 818nd Radios but only one has a Collins Mechanical 500Hz CW Filter. I wanted to add one to the other radio so I bought one on eBay. It¡¯s the same as the other which is the XF-115C. It¡¯s my understanding that this filter is compatible with the ND versions of the 818/817. It says Collins Mechanical and Yaesu on the Filter. It was said to have been tested and ¾±³Ù¡¯²õ 500 Hz. The same filter works perfectly on my other radio. After installing the filter (all the menu settings are correct) I did not hear the distinct change in sound when turning on the filter (NAR). I assumed the filter was bad and returned it. I bought another from a different vendor. Same XF-115C Filter. Same problem. This radio is virtually literally brand new. I bought it from HRO when Yaesu announced the end of the 817/818 and am just now getting around to using it. It seems unlikely that both filters could be bad and also unlikely to be the radio as ¾±³Ù¡¯²õ brand new. When I turn on the filter (press NAR) I hear the click, no error messages but the sound doesn¡¯t change in the way ¾±³Ù¡¯²õ supposed to and as it does on the other radio. Sorry for the long question. Yes can use either front BNC or rear SO239 connectors for any band.? Only issue I understand is there is internal relay that is set for the connector selected meaning the relay is drawing power when energized.? I think it is energized when the rear connector is selected.
