Re: Will you upgrade to the FTX-1F? #poll-notice

I bought an IC-705 - my one and only radio bought new and not second-hand. It is an expensive affair, but also extremely capable. At one point I was planning on using it as my main base-station rig, supplemented with an amplifier.
?
I do tend to take the IC-705 portable more often than the FT-817, especially when I am using the Chameleon MPAS 2.0 antenna. Being a multi-band antenna the SDR on the IC-705 makes it very easy to tell which bands are open. Before the IC-705 I had a KX3 which I sold because I couldn't get on with the volume of the speaker, and I really don't like having to wear headphones on a SOTA summit, for example, where I need to be mobile.
?
Having said that, for a simpler dipole setup, and pure ruggedness, the FT-817 is hard to beat. It is a different radio to the IC-705, less capable functionally, yes, but also with its' own merits. Sound quality out of such a small box is amazing, and for the most part they transmit beautiful punchy audio too.
?
Regards, Mark.

I know, isn't it amazing? YouTube "influencers" (?) reviewing a future item from a pre-release brochure (where everything is subject to change, BTW)...

I can't afford to be a ham as it is, much less go off buying a new radio!? Maybe someone will give me one to try.

Hard to know without a price. Right now it’s a brochure photo with a $35 reservation fee. I suspect it’ll be in the vicinity of the competing ICOM and Elecraft, so probably $2,000+ with all the options.?

Good afternoon,

One question, has the FTX-1F fullduplex capability?

Really too many unknowns (like price) to make a decision now.

I will say that Yaesu is *obviously* 'gunning' for the IC-705, and they've got their work cut out for them.

I believe ultimately it will be a winner, maybe even initially, but for me, I'll wait and see...

Good question but hard to answer until an FTX-1F exists, we still don't even know if it will meet the specs they have claimed.? When there is one (and I may buy one just to see!), I can then compare and contrast.?
