Recently the members were asked if they could donate a few bucks to pay the annual fee.
?
There are 9355 members of this group, if everyone of them were to donate one (1) dollar to keep this group on the net for an annual fee of $200, this group would be on the net for 9355/200 = 46, that would be 46 years with no requests for donations and the FT-817/ND would probably have faded into amateur radio history by 2070.
?
If you have benefited in any way from this group, please, donate a couple of bucks to keep it going.

Groups.IO FT-817 Subscription for 2024-2025

Requested By: Mark Wickens M0NOM #admin

Description:

In order to preserve the FT-817 Groups.IO account as is we will need to continue our Premium Subscription of $110. This is due to the size of our current message database - it substantially exceeds the storage space provided with a free downgraded account.

I have covered the cost of the upgrade, so we are safe for 2024-2025.
Could I please ask members to make a donation towards this amount?
Any excess will roll over to next years upgrade (I didn't make a request for donations last year, for example).

I'll let you choose what you are comfortable with, I ask for no minimum.
If you would like to donate please visit the?donations page?or contact me direct if you'd like to use an alternative method.
Let's keep this group as the valuable resource I know everyone appreciates.

For Sale: Yaesu FT-817nd and LDG Z-817 in Mississauga ON Canada

Hello all!
?
I am selling my Yaesu FT-817nd. It works great, but it's taught me that I don't enjoy 5w HF SSB very much. I'm also selling my LDG Z-817 tuner which I did not use more than two or three times.
?
I am the second owner of this radio. It is in very good condition. I'm asking $600 CAD OBO for the radio with basic accessories, and $125 CAD OBO for the tuner. I do not have the original box. I can deliver or meet within the GTA and KW regions.
?
Included in base price ($600):
-Yaesu FT-817nd 5w 160m-70cm QRP Transceiver
-Yaesu MH-36 full keypad hand mic
-XGGCOMMS Digimode-4-Yaesu USB cable - complete Audio, CAT, and programming interface, over $100 CAD new!
-Powerpole adapter
-Original 6m whip. 2m tip was not present when I bought the radio.
-Original oscillator board
-High-stability TCXO
-Original neck strap
-Original car charger
-Original internal NiMH battery
-Ebay replacement internal NiMH battery
-Mini 5w peak 50Ω BNC dummy load to protect the BNC connector
?
Optional Accessories, sold separately: (I will not sell these before the radio sells)
$125 - LDG Z-817 autotuner with CAT cable
$20 - Homebrew TRRS PC/phone headset adapter. Works great with VOX!
$10 - Hard sided pencil case/organiser I used to store the radio

Re: FL110 with 817

Edited

Hi,
?
switching the FL-110 via the ptt line is drawing quite some current. If I remember it right, it is arround 100 mA.
To check, just put a amperemeter in line and ground the contact. This may be a bit much for the ptt out of the 817/818 and a buffer stage may be advised.

Re: Power output instable

Edited

Hi Pietro,
?
I too had an issue with instable power and swr with my FT-817, which took me quite some time to track down.
?
The final unit has some kind of gray shielfing foil on top. With the shielding removed, the power and swr on a dummy load were stable.
After assemling the shielding and the case, the erratic behavior started again.
?
In the end an additional insulating piece of a plasic foil between the pa board and the gray shieling foil cured it for my unit.
It may or may not be a solution fo your unit, but it would be a simple try.
?
Good luck, 73
Chris

Ah. Memories weren't mentioned, hence the confusion.

Joseph,

The OP isn't talking about upgrading from FT-817 to FT-818, he wants to clone memories and settings from one to the other.

If he were considering an upgrade from one to the other, there is the issue of vendor repair if the radio breaks - first model FT-817 (non-ND) are no longer able to be repaired by Yaesu, according to recent reports. That could be an issue for some, since the original FT-817 radios are as much as 20 years old...

But, function/specification-wise, yes, the radios are nearly identical.

Re: Clone FT817 to FT818

I was unable to directly clone between an FT-817 "unmodified", and an FT817 "modified" i.e. "wide-banded" radios.
?
First I downloaded a data-file from the target radio and populated it (copy and paste) with the required entries from a data file downloaded from the source radio. I was then able to upload the edited data file to the target radio. I used CHIRP.
?
As another example, I have found that widebanding a VX-6 radio alters its signature, so direct cloning between a modified and nonmodfied VX-6 is not possible.? I suspect the signature of an 817 is not the same as that from 818, so to "clone" between them you need to use the procedure above.

I would suggest using Chirp. A direct clone may not be possible due to hardware changes. Chirp works very well with my 817ND, just follow the instructions in software.?

Note that RT Systems shows a different product to program the FT-817 than for the FT-818. On models that have identical systems, such as the Yaesu FT-897 and FT-837, they sell the same program, in the same package to cover both. I would suggest that there is, as you suggest, some small difference between the two.
