Re: Someone with FT-818 and internal battery to do test with external power plug?

Hi Pete,

Yes the issue is the (expected) leakage of the schottky.

You should add the external R labelled R1 in here:

Re: 817ND power connector leaking voltage?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi Pete,

?

I think you¡¯ll find that that is normal.

?

I just did a quick measurement on my ND and have about 2.38V showing on the input connector when the internal battery is connected. There is zero when it is disconnected. I have the Windcamp lithium pack in mine with the physical switch in the battery cover.

?

If you have a look at the schematic, you¡¯ll see that there is a connection directly from the input plug to the trickle charge circuit which takes off prior to the main series diode, so that is most likely where the small bleed voltage is coming from. You¡¯ll find the input plug in the lower right corner of the main unit schematic and the charging circuits are above that, about half way up the schematic.

Subject: [ft817] 817ND power connector leaking voltage?

?

I was working on a wiring harness for my 817ND/IC705 LEO setup and I found something odd. The 817ND power plug shows about 2.5v. I do have a NiMH pack installed and it behaves normally. I would not expect to see any rig voltage at the DC supply connector in a typical diode-controlled supply scenario. I'm using a Windcamp powerpole adapter but the voltage is there without it. Now I'm wondering if the previous owner had a reverse-polarity "incident" and the rig basically survived. Ideas?

Re: Someone with FT-818 and internal battery to do test with external power plug?

Hi Simon, I have an 817ND and I observed voltage at the power connector with a powerpole asapter installed. I just posted about this issue then found your thread in a search.

I ran your tests and:
1) open
2) open
4) 2.6v
5) 81uA

Additionally:
With the internal battery installed I see 0.8v from the center pin to chassis ground with the plug/adapter removed.
When I checked the voltage at the adapter with the internal battery uninstalled I could see it bleed down from about 1v to 0v in a few seconds, so there is cap discharge (?) involved.

If I understand you correctly the schottky diode is leaking voltage through the power connector. I run a parallel "Y" harness to power a second rig (IC705) and often have the supply side disconnected (habit). That would mean the 705 can draw that 2.6v. Having voltage at the power connector has me a little freaked out. I'm now thinking about reverse voltage protection on the 817 supply cable.

Thanks for the informative thread, Pete N1QDQ

Re: Probl¨¦me SSB

Pete , I test my FT817 with a friend technician , and not found some probl¨¦me ???? Quick check coax cinch inside ,?I have unplugged the electronic strings from the front, change the power c?ble with a bigger section, 1mm .? I retest it after , power 4 , 5 Watt , FM is ok , and in SSB more carrier ???? audio is good? ?IDK !!? Testing soon on Sat? /P .? 73's Olivier F5RRO??

True. I thought it was giving thanks for having survived the first winter, ably assisted by the Native Americans. That's one of the weaknesses of these message boards, reflectors and forums, folks (like me in this instance) hold forth from tbeir comfy chairs on what they think, and it's not a lot of use relying upon Wikipedia or the perceived avuncular Google before committing to a keyboard,? altruistic or otherwise respectively.

Dare I reply "on-topic," but I have one of Howie's KX-33 power adapters and am quite pleased with it.

As for the perceived slight, I'll leave that for others to sort out...

Hi all!
Pro Audio Engineering is having a winter sale on the Kx33 Low-RFI Power Supply for the FT-817/818.? Just enter the coupon "winter22" at checkout to receive a 15% discount.? Make sure to add the 33-120 adapter for the FT-817/818.? QST reviewed the Kx33 and said:

"The Pro Audio Engineering Kx33?is a clean, lightweight power supply that offers a good match to low-power radios requiring 14 V DC at up to 4 A."

We wish all US hams a Happy Thanksgiving and everyone a happy and safe holiday season!

Re: Winter Sale

Hi Markus!

The Kx33 and discount is available to ALL hams everywhere in the world other than a few countries which our shippers will not service.? The 15% winter discount is only available if ordered directly from PAE in the USA, and we do ship worldwide.? The Kx33 is also available from Waters & Stanton in the UK and Lutz Electronics in Switzerland.

I mentioned the US Thanksgiving holiday...merely because it is upon us here in the US.? We have thousands of customers all across the earth and we wish them all the best, which is why I stated "everyone" which is inclusive...not exclusive and includes you!

Re: Winter Sale

I took it on face value, we don't have Thanksgiving in the UK so no reason our friends across the water would send good wishes for it. Personally we've had enough lately with Bonfire night (Guy Fawkes) and Halloween, need time to prepare for Christmas.
Let's not read to much into it and worry about more important issues going on in the world.

As someone who lives in the United States I'll provide you a little background. Around this time as a matter of fact next Friday we have a tradition called Black Friday the day after Thanksgiving that almost every retailer participates in. The retailers mark prices down and many times the lowest for the entire year. It is to stimulate sales and has been a tradition for here for decades. With the economy in such a state of crap lately, many retailers are getting an early start. I have walked down the isles of retail stores and see Black Friday specials going on now. There have been news stories about retailers worrying about being stuck with extra stock they brought in for Black Friday.? The person with the message is simply having a sale.
?
As for the worldwide slight, the retailer wished everyone a happy and safe holiday season not just the United States as you can see from the copy of the original message with phrases emphasized by quotation marks Happy Thanksgiving was intended only for United States hams's as no other country in the world celebrates this holiday. Other countries have something similar (the Canadians come to mind) but not the same.??

Yes, it's a shame that these aren't available more widely but that's just the way things go.?I've not looked for an equivalent and guaranteed RFI- quiet supply here in the UK. But will do now that I know there's something like that in existence.

Perhaps Howie was just wishing Happy Thanksgiving to the US hams (the rest of us don't celebrate Thanksgiving) and happy holidays to the rest of us. The punctuation could have made it clearer.
