Regarding switching power supply noise...
I have been using a small Radio Shack 13.8 VDC 3A regulated switching power
supply with my '817 with very limited hash problems, none where I have
wanted to operate. It is catalog number 22-503 at $49.99.
RS labels it "3-Amp Traveler Powers DC Vehicle Accessories Anywhere ...
great for powering auto accessories in countries with varying VAC."
It's black with a red lighted rocker-toggle on/off switch on the front
panel. It also has a vehicle accessory outlet (cigar lighter socket), a
6-foot power cord, and a padded carrying case. It takes 85 - 240 VAC input.
RS lists it as "UL listed and FCC approved." It measures 1-7/8 x 3 x 7-1/2
Inches and weighs 0.89 lbs.
On their web site < <>
go to PRODUCT CATALOG>Catalog Home>Test & Measurement>Power Supplies. RS
has a bunch of info about it under these headings: Features, Safety,
Connections, Operation, Care and Maintenance, Specification.
Using it, I position the power supply against the left side of the Z-11
which is underneath the '817.
