Hi FT-817 user?s!
The FT-817 is a very excellent piece of equipment. But for optimized
CW use, some improvements or accessories are necessary.
Here some of my thought?s and a description of my solution?s.
Tthe FT-817 needs:
-a memory keyer for auto-CQ (importand for QRP!) and with easy
adjustment of the sending speed
-an extern tunebutton which is also useful as a straight CW-key
(integrated backup key!)
-DC-distribution with RFI-choke, Spikesurpression, Autofuse and
Reversepolarityprotection to directly connect the FT-817 and the Z-11
Autotuner
I did built this in a small accessoriebox from scratch, matching the
leftside of the Trcvr. The powersupply and the keyer cable using
right angle plugs, so if you are using the frontside antenna
connector, the FT-817 can stand upside on his back.
My minimum FT-817 setup is completely transportable in a small
Samsonite phone bag (around 23x17x8cm).
This bag contains (nothing outside the bag!):
-FT-817 with NiMh-Batterie
-small centerloadet CB Antenna
-Mike
-Palm Paddle
-OE6GC Ultimate CW-Accessorie-box (described above)
-Homebrew ZM-2 tuner
-Koax between FT-817 and ZM-2
-10m + 10m of flexible Antenna-wire (=20m n x lamda/2 or tuned dipole
on 40 to 10m )
-Toshiba (15V/1,5A DC) silent Switching Powersupply
Would be fine if this thought?s are useful for the FT-817
freak?s too. Will load up Foto?s to the file section soon.
