I haven't had a
problem with seating the BNC connectors. Yes, it's *plenty* tight,
but that's a good thing as far as I am concerned; esp. when I try
to
use the ATX on it ('tho I'm in the process of making my own
mounting
bracket to use w/the SO-239 on the back panel along the lines of
the
bracket in the FILES section of the NG).

Hi guys,

I also have had no problems whatsoever mounting my ATX on the
FT-817`s BNC connector without any other support. OK I have used my
ATX no more than 40 times up to now, but how often do you use yours?
Also I never carry my FT-817 in the jungle! hi hi hi!! (just joking
of course).

I believe that the tight fit on the BNC is a good thing. I usually
handle my radio with care and hold it on my hand when I use it with
the ATX. Unless one is really careless with it or hands his/her
precious little radio to be used as a toy by a little child, I
somehow fail to understand how anything can happen with the BNC
connector.

Ok I wouldn`t try my MP-1 on the BNC (even if it had a 3/8 " to BNC
adaptor) because it is heavy, but the ATX is not all that heavy!!!

I am happy with the lightness of the ATX and the convenience of being
able to mount it on the front panel, despite it`s overall lower
efficiency due to it`s lower Q coil.
If I want to work some DX, I usually take my W3FF handheld dipole or
the MP-1, although my friend Terry G0EHX, using his FT-817 ATX and 1
radial, worked Pakistan and Zibambwe from the ground floor hotel
balcony when he was on holiday in Greece last week.
