Well, I have lived most of my adult life in apartments and only
recently got myself a house with a small lot.
I have, for the above mentioned reason, been forced to use strange
and mostly inefficent antennas and low power to avoid disturbing all
kinds of consumer electronics.
My experience is that where there is a way, there is a will and this
is also true for Ham radio. I have work W, VK, VE, ZS, OX, LU and
many more on phone. The rig's has been a Ten Tec Argonaut with 2 - 3
watts and lately a Yaesu FT-100 running around 10 watts output.
If you are into digital modes try PSK31, it is amazing what you can
work with next to no output.
With low power you wouldn't bust the pile-up but with the right
operating procedure you will get that DX station and it is so much
more fun to know that you did the QRP way than just turning the that
KW amp.
I am getting a FT-817 for those reasons and the FT-100 will proberly
end up collecting dust somewere.
Just my two cent's
Erik
