Re: Problem with "Select" optical encoder

Howard,

I wrote the posting to which Bill refers. It's #26156.

I went and looked back at it in the archive. I had used underscores,
vertical bars and such to draw some bit timing diagrams, but they
don't look right in my browser, even though Courier font is used.
Looks like Yahoo yanked out the "extra" whitespace.

I'm not on the PC where I wrote the message, so I can't pull it out
of the 'Sent' folder and forward it to you. But if you go read
#26156 and can't figure it out, let me know. I'll fire up the other
machine and send you the original message. But I think if you read
that posting, you'll have a good understanding of what's happening.
Then you can make an informed decision whether or not to have it
fixed (or try to fix it yourself).

FWIW, I'm still living with the jitter in mine. It's gotten a little
worse, but I'm a "mild and lazy guy" and can still put up with it!

You might try a search of the archives. I remember this being
discussed somewhere, and I think it was in this group. Someone
posted a very good description of the optical encoder and how it
works, including the failure modes and why the reverse direction
thing occurs. Yes, that is one of the failure modes, by the way.
