Re: A much more serious post-mod problem ( another idea) - and resolution

Of course, that was my intention... no need to dedicate one of the HF
bandsegments for 5 discrete channels, and better to center the
channels right up with memories anyway. In fact, I'd done that, by
tuning the 80M band up to the frequencies needed than back down to
3900 or so.

My problem was that there was no way to get to the 6M frequencies.
Tune up from 10M and drop back to MF. Tune down from WFM and go back
to the top of WFM.

I tried redoing the reset (F+vm/poweron, i think it was), which reset
all my memories, VFOs, and options, but still left me without access
to 6M. Yesterday morning, I redid the mod. It's pretty small work,
in a cramped place. I remelted all 4 shorts and recleaned all 5
opens. On inspection (binoculars backwards make a decent emergency
microscope), I could see that there was a lot of flux built up around
all the pads, and that there appeared to be a few nearly-nonexistent
solder filaments across some of the opens. I spent about 45 minutes
with sharpened toothpicks under the microscope, reassembled, reset
again, and now have everything expected. My guess is that one of the
5 opens sets to a location that has no 6M band, and I had it shorted.

I planned that course of action - re-reset, if fail, redo jumpers - ,
but wanted to sound the group first, in case this was a known condition.

I dread re-entering all the UO-14 and AO-27 pairs....

Why not simply program 5 memory slots to the new channels? I agree
with your analysis Ken on the "lost" band because I did that once and
had 2 15 meter bands. I have not modded my rig yet--not sure if I
will as I have other rigs that will work. I really need to modify my
schedule to fit in more radio time!!
