Re: Chirp issues? Old 817. Distant stories of bricks

Hi Larry,

?

I haven’t heard of problems using Chirp with the FT8x7 group of radios although I have previously used FTBasicMMO for programming mine (817, 857 & 897) and always had good results with it.

?

You may be confusing the problem with the problems with the early versions of Ham Radio Deluxe for rig control which wrote to some memory locations continuously eventually stuffing the memory and hence bricking the radio. Yaesu put out a bulletin about this many years ago and the later versions removed the options which caused this.

?

Although the author, Bob Freeth G4HFQ is SK, the program is still available at .

Subject: [ft817] Chirp issues? Old 817. Distant stories of bricks

I am using my 817 again. I've had it since a year or two after they came out. Gets used in spurts but I have never used programing software such as CHIRP.? Main reason is that once upon a time I read that chirp(and others) had a habit of bricking certain Yaesu radios.? Was this a thing? has it been addressed?? I don't mind entering things from the keyboard but starting up in a new area with a dozen or so rptrs, new HF nets, M17 etc, it would be nice to do it by cptr. And, if not chirp are there any proven apps?

?

Thanks for any thoughts

?

Larry
