In slide 11 the pdf mentions remoterig boxes, that would sit between your FT-857 head in your new home and the FT-857 body at your son's home.
CW may be able to be handled by the boxes, but AFAIK you can't connect a CW key to the FT-857 head...
?
Another option is to consider a Flex radio, they can handle CW over internet connection.
CW over a RemoteHams connection may be possible, I don't know. They used to offer a control box to allow connection to a remote radio, I'm unsure about its availability now.
?
Another option might be the RemoteTX solution, based on an RPi at your son's house controlling a supported radio and you control it with a modern browser.
?
But for CW, it only appears to support keyboard CW sending.

Our son lives about 10 miles away from the apartments on 5 acres with big trees -- perfect for one or more dipoles.

Has anyone ever tried -- or is anyone now using -- remote operation?

Here's a link to a presentation about remote operation.

Seems as though I could put my FT817 or FT857 at his place, get another 817 or 857 for the apartment, and link them remotely over the 'net, and operate CW -- which is all I do anyway.
?
Anyone tired this, or, doing it now?
?
Would it be as simple as a laptop and a rig at each location?
?
Thanks
