Lucky,
Very nice work!? You did an amazing job of articulating why we all love our sliders.? Also great to see the kappa 400 x-motion in pictures!??
Lots of shout outs to people on the FOG too! Mac's clamps, Brian's parallel Fence and lots of ideas from everyone too!
Thank you for adding value in the woodworking world!

Hi PK:
Thank you very much. I’ve enjoyed working on the two articles (calibrating and using) and tried to distill all the “goodies” for newbies that we talk about all the time here on the FOG but the wider users of sliders don’t know.
David Best was instrumental in his help in condensing the material, making the prose understandable, photo selection, etc. Thanks David!
And it made sense to single out Brian’s and Mac’s products specifically (Brian’s parallel fence is even heroed in the main photo). We have no local makers making what they make so it was easy to push Aussies in their direction! But damn the duty and taxes! LOL

Haha on the butt bar comment. Aussies rarely say “butt” as we prefer “bum”. But I figured “bum bar” wouldn’t wash. If I had any more English blood in me I’d have tried “arse bar” with the editor to see if that would slip through!
I regret those loose fitting jeans shorts now. Shoulda donned the pink tights!

I don’t own parallel clamps and wondered about calibration, so both clamps are identically set. Great simple jig shown by Lucky to accomplish this. Imran, Here are two other jig designs for this purpose: ?

David,
I now recall seeing these but you have to agree what lucky showed is very simple. Although, I see that one might need two of them. For wide rips the first magnet will end up on the slider. So either a 2nd jig or a 2 part lockable sliding end to extend the reach would be clever.

Just follow the directions on page 5 and 6. This is the simplest, quickest and most accurate way to set the parallel fences.

Brian,
The procedure you show is great for digital version. With analog version, what Lucky shows (or alternatives from David Best) should get one perfect calibration.
I am sure, eyeballing the tape on the analog parallel fence can get one close enough for non critical use. I have gotten used to sending the parts thru the planer (on edge for final width) for critical parts. That is the only machine with DRO in my shop and it allows me to reliably reproduce a part if I mess up. I did cut a wrong miter on my recent frame build and I was able to mill another piece to exact width that way.

The procedure is no different for analog or DRO, you set the fence to zero either way. If you are talking about setting two analog fences to exactly equal distances, I’ve detailed any number of ways of doing that as well… even put a video on youtube as to how.
