In Need of New Tires for F38

Startled to find my minimally used Felder feeder failed to grip wood today as I attempted run through the shaper.? What is the current company supplier recommendation for replacement rubber for the Felder F38 feeder?? Replace just tires or hub also??

Hi Ron, sanding the hard rubber with 60-80 grit helps with slipping in the short term.?

You can have the existing hubs recovered with polyurethane which will give you superior traction to the OEM rubber tires on your F38. ? I use Griffith Polymers who acquired Axiom in 2021 for feed rollers on my F38 and for the feed rollers on my Dual 51 J/P, ?You send them your existing hubs/tires, they recover them and send them back. ?Call them at 503-620-2439. ? I have also used Fletcher Machine Industries in the past, but it’s been a while since I used them. ?They are at 800-438-1054?

You can buy new hubs/tires from Western Roller but they do not recover existing hubs. ?The dimensions on the replacement hubs/tires they supply are slightly narrower, and they are offset from the edge of the feeder housing making it more difficult to get the tires right up against the fence plates. ?Western Roller info is here: ?https://westernroller.com/

Shop gear sells them also, but fitment would require a call.

I did take some 60 grit paper to them but, sadly, didn't help much.

Thanks for that info, David.? I'll check with each.

Hi Ron,

If you tried to scuff by hand you may not have removed enough material. You literally have to remove the outer layer of material. When I did it before having them recovered, I glued the multiple sandpapers slightly wider than the wheels on a board. The sandpaper strip was long enough to cover length of 4 wheels, well in my case. I clamped the board to the table/slider and lowered the running PF onto the sandpaper. You should see some rubber coming off. With new surface the grip will improve but best long term solution is to get them recovered with polyurethane.

Ron,
?
I just put new wheels from Western Roller on my F38. ? They fit perfectly and work great. ?
?
My original wheels seemed to be in flawless condition and were still soft and pliable. ? ?However, they did not work well at all. ?
?
Western Roller item number 1040-0020013. ? 120mm X 60mm tapered ID for split hubs. ? 70 Duro. ??

Thanks, Imran.? I didn't dress them that much, so I'm going to try that per your suggestion again, since I'm mid-project on some doors. Hopefully that will get me through and then look to improve with some replacements also.?

Rusty, appreciate details.? Great!
