How low does your hammer K3 blade go?

My k3 is new to me, but it¡¯s a 2005 model that is in reasonable shape.?

A 315mm blade does go below the table height, just, but only by a few millimetres.?

Why is this a problem? If I have a Zero clearance insert on (the kind that closes up on both sides of blade), then I can¡¯t get the blade under the insert and onto the arbour. It¡¯s all just too tight.?

I can solve it a number of ways, but it helps a lot if I know what normal range is.

Cheers, -JS

Jonny,

My B3 is a 2021 unit. I can only guess/suppose that the available space for installing the blade is similar to that of your K3.?
?
Even after rotating the scoring saw shield in the proper position, I cannot install my 315mm blade without removing the insert.?
?
Although it is slightly annoying, removing the four screws that hold the insert in place is a better solution for me than testing my very limited patience. ?

On my C3, I always removed the ZCI before changing blades or scoring unit.
If you get a T-handle hex wrench, the T-handle mass spins the ZCI screws out pretty quickly; it doesn't take that long.
cheers, happy solstice...

Sounds correct. I have to remove mine as well for the full-size blades.?

I have a model year 2000 K3 and ended up disposing of the 315 mm blades I naively purchased when I bought the saw. I don't specifically remember exactly how far below the table top a 315 mm blade could go on this saw. But the bigger problem I encountered was that swapping between the 300 mm blades I normally use and a 315 mm blade entails resetting the riving knife, at least if you desire the riving knife to be positioned a hair below the top edge of a 300 mm blade (so as to stay on for non through cuts). And on the K3, resetting the position of the riving knife is a very fiddly and unfun procedure, as discussed a number of times previously here. I also have at least a vague recollection that the interplay between the Hammer riving knife and the mechanism may not have allowed for sufficient range to position the riving knife below the top of a 315 mm blade. I could be mistaken on this last point, however.

As a separate matter, even with a 300 mm blade, I always remove the zero clearance insert to change blades. Maybe it's possible not to do so--I'm not sure I have ever tried. But certainly, it makes things easier, given the need to maneuver the blade in a confined space and line up the bore holes.
