AD741 Make a loud squeak noise when starts #repair #ad741

Hello guys,?

I'm new here and very much happy to read the useful discussions.?

Last year I purchased the AD741 and generally speaking I'm very happy with the performance and accuracy.?

Thus, since day 1 there was a loud noise when I turn it on, I asked the technician at the time, and he told me it might be the belt not tighten enough and said I can leave with it.

Recently it got worst and for the first time I opened the machine, I saw a lot of black powder probably from the belt.?

Is there anyone knows what Is wrong and what I should do about it?

Adding some videos,?

Thanks!
AD741

More than likely, sheeve misalignment, take a straight edge and put it from one sheeve to the other and see if they lineup.

Looks to me like the belt is too long, too loose and you are at the limits of adjusting the motor further away. I would remove the belt, or read what size it is and get the next smallest one and replace it. The squeaking is from the belt slipping on the drive pulley, also contributes to all the belt dust in the compartment. You can check the alignment, but with that small of pulleys and as much distance is between them, I doubt that is the problem.

There is a second, smaller belt on a lower pulley, behind the larger pulley. ?The black debris that is cast off onto the chassis wall appears to be in line with the smaller pulley and belt. ?I would look closer at that lower belt.

The long belt does appear to be a bit loose, but one must be careful with tensioning. ?Too little will result in slippage and belt damage. ?Too much can cause early bearing wear.

Good luck,

Alex B.

Thank you for all the comments guys, I'll try tightening the drive belt and update you on how it went.

So today I opened the machine, as you guys suggested, I tightened the drive belt after opening the 4 screws of the engine, it actually helped a lot and there is a significant reduction in the noise.?

But I'm at the limit of adjusting the motor, do you think its possible felder supplied the machine with a belt that is too long?

also, how would you clean the dust from all the area?

thansk

That was my original suggestion, one size shorter on the belt. Vacuum what will come off and then paper towels or rags for the rest.
